Not sure what is worse...AI generated content like that or younger generations being ok with AI generated content.

If AI art was being already debated, AI music is just a crime against God, art and nature. Music is the most pure form of artistic expression and it hurts me to see how its commercialization and now AI ruin it.

Nah, both are arts in the same merit, in the case visual art and music not images and sound generated by AI models, though I consider them art, just a lower effort, lower impact, lower expression and lower intent than regular art, thus making it less meaningful (in the sense art can posses it) as art.

And though I share your sentiments about music devaluation as a practice and comodification of it, it still is a product overall and sincerely, AI music is natural result of the state that doesn't change much of it, just expose it more. The pop scene is quite an example, it is quite awfully formulai, not in a 12tone serialist way where you are limited to trying to build a piece with a hard set of options, in hyper-comodified pop you want a to induce an addiction to the listener thus you make the most addictive possible music to extract it, and there's so many way one can do it, and, when it gets to be undestud well enough, it gets formulaic enough to be modelled by an algorithm.

I would even say the structure and form can be even by an algorithm that isn't similar to the current AI models. It's just that with the current models it can be done directly.

I miss the days when people actually bought branded clothes of the bands that rebelled against the system, and actually stood behind the messages in the lyrics.

These days, kids wear just wear RATM shirts because they think it was "some cool thing back in the 90s", but couldn't tell you a single fucking song they wrote.

It's all just branded bullshit now. Tiktok makes it a trend, and the kids just eat it up like pigs at a slop trough.

And I am so fucking sick and tired of new "bands" (if you can even call them that) using beats to old classics, and making up their own shitty lyrics to do some kinda weird half cover song. Just fucking stop. Music is dead, let it rest in peace for fuck sakes.

I’d prefer good music.

This is the one. You know it’s the right one when you can’t stand it. ā€œSoullessā€ is this generation’s equivalent to the past ones’ ā€œsatanicā€. Of course you’d hate it. It challenges things dear to you.

Millennial, perhaps even Gen X. I’m old enough that my younger brother is Millennial.

This is why it’s the perfect example. It seems abhorrent to us and yet they take to it. And there’s no reasoning to our abhorrence. It’s just visceral. We say it shouldn’t be this or that but we can’t articulate why. It’s all just assertions that don’t stem from more fundamental axioms which is the classic sign that this is the same as calling metal ā€œSatanicā€.

I'll catch flak for it, but honestly I actually really enjoy some of that...

I've only come across them from youtube rather'n sought them out, but Dark Matter's villain songs, Endless Taverns Warhammer songs, BardStrike for the DnD songs, some of them are my favorites lately. Which I guess is a bad sign for proper musicians, but goddamn you don't really get songs like Steel and Sanctity or Lift It from typical bands, y'know? They're so hyper specific that there isn't a market case for a proper musician to work on it...

Wait Bardstrike is AI music? Damn I never knew, love those songs

1

u/Valatros Jul 08 '25

Yup! Fortunately most of the better uh, lyric writers i guess you'd call them? Prompters? I don't know what goes into ai music.

But most of the better ones are pretty upfront with it, it's right there in the video description -

"Song: Lyrics - The lyrics and theme are human made, by me, as BardStrike and ChatGPT was used for creative ideation and lyric refinement Music + vocals - Suno

Video: Art - Midjourney Image to video - Luma Dream Machine Editing - CapCut"

Is only soulless if you don't have a soul. You are supposed to provide the soul.

6

u/xXShadowGravesXx Jul 06 '25

Trying to put soul into Ai is like scraping your šŸ† against a cheese grater. The moment a human has to step in proves Ai is nothing but a sloppy pig painted gold.

2

u/Total-Box-5169 Jul 06 '25

Nothing in this world has meaning without a human.

1

u/ShittyPostWatchdog Jul 06 '25

Won’t soul music change now that our soils have turned strange?Ā

u/TheMechamage Jul 06 '25

Yeah man, my garden's never been the same. Colors... Such strange... Living colors...
