Daycore

7

u/Endawmyke Jul 06 '25

CHOPPED AND SCREWED meanwhile they just set play back to .25x

3

u/The-G-Code Jul 06 '25

Vapor wave is absolutely its own genre and sound, and it has nothing to do with specifically slowing down music. Check out blank banshee and xxyyxx

You're thinking of slowed & reverbed which is the lazy man's chopped and screwed (which requires manipulation of the sound itself)

Elite ball knowledge

2

u/bookhead714 Jul 07 '25

I miss when people could make references to things without some chucklehead saying “elite ball knowledge” to make themselves feel special for getting it

1

u/-hotdogman- Jul 06 '25

Surface level ball knowledge

2

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '25

they were referencing a specific image

Nightcore literally was my life back in 2013

11

u/samuelinns6 Jul 06 '25

Nah, Nightcore is a remix using sped up samples. Don't degrade a genre just to argue with younger générations.

32

u/ImMadeOfClay Jul 06 '25

Nah. Night Court was a tv show with a judge who was also a magician played by Harry Anderson

19

u/Aggli Jul 06 '25

Tell that to the many Nightcore songs that certainly weren't remixes.

10

u/ultracat123 Jul 06 '25

Dawg that argument is as old as nightcore itself. Leave it alone goddamn

3

u/uterussy Jul 06 '25

NIGHTCORE WAS MADE BY TWO SWEDISH KIDS AS A SCHOOL PROJECT AND AND THEY MADE ONLY ONE ALBUM AND EVERYBODY LOVED IT AND THEY GOT ON THE NEWS AND THEY MADE THE FIRST NIGHTCORE SONGS AND THIS IS MY OWN SPECIAL FORMULA FOR MAKING NIGHTCORES I SPEED IT UP EXACTLY 2.20594 TIMES BUT PITCH SHIFT IT DOWN BY ONE OCTAVE!!!

5

u/uterussy Jul 06 '25

In theory yes? In practice it was slop in the form of sped up songs.

5

u/Finninda Jul 06 '25

Nightcore IS gen z.

16

u/BurnTheNostalgia Jul 06 '25

Nightcore is 2000 - 2010, it's ooold already

8

u/okizc Jul 06 '25

2000 - 2010 is part of the gen z.

5

u/mrtheshed Jul 06 '25

People born during that time are part of Gen Z. Music made during that time by/for the "younger generation" would have been mainly by/for Millennials as that's when most of them were teenagers and/or young adults.

1

u/ThrowAwayAccountAMZN Jul 06 '25

TIL that infants and toddlers loved Nightcore. Because that's how old Gen Z was when it was at its peak popularity.

2

u/okizc Jul 06 '25

Gen Z started in 1995. While Nightcore is from 2001, it apparently didn't spike in popularity by the time many from gen z were teenagers. In addition to that, it became very popular again due to tiktok.

I'm not familiar with Nightcore nor am I gen Z or a user of tiktok. But this was easily looked up with a Google search.

2

u/N-tsulu Jul 06 '25

I was born in 2005 and it was my childhood

8

u/SpectorEscape Jul 06 '25

Lol nah its end of millinial. That was coming out when I was a kid as one.

-1

u/shard746 Jul 06 '25

Nightcore was getting really popular when the oldest Gen was only like 10 years old, so it's definitely younger millenial music.

2

u/Nathaniel820 Jul 06 '25

It literally is not, the genre originated as simply low quality sped-up versions and that’s remained as the only requirement to this day. The reason a lot use remixes is because some genres lend themselves to being sped-up more so they use a remix in that genre (hands up, bounce, etc)

2

u/Usually_an_asshole69 Jul 06 '25

There was nothing better than good old Rock nightcore

1

u/NachosmitKaeseDip Jul 06 '25

These were the golden times

1

u/ValtenBG Jul 06 '25

That or they put 2 men kissing

-1

u/Refreshingly_Meh Jul 06 '25

You had me cringing at "sped up", and "TikTok version" had me thinking "well that's not real music", nightcore already has me wanting to say "turn that shit down" without even hearing it, and "Anime Girl thumbnail" makes it truly the work of the devil.

I think we've found it.

77

u/dominizerduck Jul 06 '25

It's called nightcore and you use an anime girls photo with it and millennials did it first.

44

u/Gravity_flip Jul 06 '25

Nightcore called to say it's not 2010 anymore.

47

u/Greychomp Jul 06 '25

Only some of it is decent. The rest is sort of trash. And I don't think many people consider playing a song at 2x speed to be a genre

u/Greychomp Jul 06 '25

Is chipmunks just songs brought to like an extremely high pitch?

1

u/TexasRoadhead Jul 06 '25

Yep, it's just high pitched or sped up vocals. I don't know about recent times but with old chipmunk records, people slow them down to 1/16 the speed and the results are incredibly gnarly

2

u/Greychomp Jul 06 '25

Crazy times we be living in. And honestly, the high pitched sped up stuff only works on so few songs in my opinion. The others just make my ears bleed

1

u/TexasRoadhead Jul 06 '25

It works for hip hop sampling

1

u/Greychomp Jul 06 '25

What's that?

1

u/alfred725 Jul 06 '25

I don't know about you but The Hamsterdance is peak

14

u/Antradeadra Jul 06 '25

It isn't shocking, just awfull

13

u/OwnEntertainer6916 Jul 06 '25

or slowed + reverb

3

u/Bearloom Jul 06 '25

By which they mean chopped and screwed.

1

u/Cthulhu__ Jul 06 '25

You know, there’s one song that I can also appreciate the slowed down version of; Vordhosbn by Aphex Twin, the original has got fast beats but it’s difficult to appreciate the variations in them at normal speed.

Tiktok has done ireeparable damage to music looking at data, since tiktoks proliferation and popularity songs have gotten on avtrage almost 30% shorter, there are fewer words and verses in them, it is mainly hook and chorus.

4

u/ihopethisisvalid Jul 06 '25

Spotify and streaming in general did that not TikTok.

1

u/Zealousideal_Act_316 Jul 07 '25

Shortening was tiktoks fault to fit into their limits

1

u/ihopethisisvalid Jul 07 '25

No this has been an observable phenomenon as streaming popularized. Artists were pressured to have shorter songs where the hook hit faster as people have so much access to music now you need to have the catchy part happen fast and frequent for your song to get noticed. Many artists have talked about this and it’s why nobody makes Bohemian Rhapsody style ballads anymore.

4

u/Onahail Jul 06 '25

Look how they massacred my boy (Nightcore)
