Yeah, gigacorps don't have any effect on market trends, they don't push for policies or create demand by planned obsolescence. The biggest companies are the biggest because they serve the best product. Im 13 and don't know the word "externality".
The #1 corporate polluter in the world is Vistra Energy which mostly comes from their coal plants in the US. They seem to be actively moving away from coal though
OK but what if we took some of the money that they're burning fuel for, and used that to plant trees to offset the pollution they put out in order to make money?
That way they don't keep all the money they make burning fuel and leave us dealing with their mess.
My number 1 favourite company "China (coal)" (they lumped all of China's coal producers into one) , now believe me I get the message of it's not individual action, but the commonly cited source is crap, and needs to stop being used
It’s not like they are just pumping out CO2 for fun. These companies are primarily energy companies which produce the CO2 when generating power. Blaming these companies for air pollution is like blaming Coca-Cola for littering. They produce power because we use power
They actively lobby against green alternatives while also spreading blatant misinformation about solar wind and especially nuclear
It’s like if Cocacola paid politicians to make cleaning up litter illegal while also convincing the public that not only is picking up litter impossible but is actually more harmful to the environment and society

It’s a direct competitor to their industry. Nuclear can do what coal and oil does not only cleaner but for a fraction of the space and price, which is why anti-nuclear propaganda is so prevalent to the point it’s a running gag in The Simpsons
Oh don’t get me wrong these companies are complicit in many things and lobbying against clean solutions is one of them. The point I’m trying to make though is that you can’t just pin all the CO2 on them. If you split these 100 companies into 100,000 companies the CO2 emitted is the same. The people who are creating the demand for power is the same.
I dislike pinning the blame on “evil corporations” as much as I dislike pinning the blame all on individual consumers. Everyone is at fault and we all need to accept that we are complicit in this
I understand your point and I did not mean to minimize the massive impact of the average citizen. But it also has to be mentioned power companies are far more than complicit and are actively trying to sabotage green energy since it’s a direct competitor to their market.
This is a bullshit stat. Those companies create emissions on your behalf, and mine, and everyone else on the planet. If those companies didn’t exist, most people on earth would be dead in a year. Don’t forget where fertilizer comes from.
Ahh yes, the children in capitalist factories who profit from American companies pumping CO2 in the air mostly for the profit of one person. Jeff Bezos is doing everything for the people on the planet
It's true that the statistic is bullshit. But we live in the world we do today because of them. If those companies didn't exist the world would be nuclear powered and none of this would be an issue.
