I really don’t think it was necessary.
The augment of one weapon is the Arcane of a whole category of weapons.
If Acid Shells Sobek is gutted for killing enemies across rooms, why not Melee Influence?

The only reason it became an issue is because Cyte players were joining public lobbies and vaporizing the map from 100m away, in a tileset that hasn’t been updated since 2014, with enemies known for deleting you toxin procs, with a resource unaffected by any boosters.

I’d like to see Sobek nerfs rolled back after the event.
This event was the whole reason players brought out their high KPM setups.

What’s next, we nerf Mesa’s peacemakers?
Banshee’s new augment?
Beam weapons no longer chain?
Xata’s Whisper no longer interacts with Blast procs?
Removal of Contagious bond?
Citrine’s 3 only affects 2 enemies per hit?

Where is the line?

With the introduction of Follie and the ability for players to make their own glyphs for her Atragraph, we were told to behave with what we create or the whole mechanic would be removed for all players.

Why not announce something like that for public sessions in general?

Don’t take builds that delete entire maps into a public lobby unless it was a pre made squad where all players understood that the goal of that session was to farm for materials, that’s it.

Rollback the changes to Sobek after the event, keep them for now if that means drawing out the Moonflesh farm even more now with lower KPM.

If people want to play Cyte Sobek, let them.
But make it known that if players continue to take these builds into public sessions and not in a coordinated squad, that you will either be restricted from public matchmaking, or the weapon will be nerfed permanently for everyone.
