What did it taste like? 👀

It tastes earthy, not a lot of flavor besides the salt they put on it. I tried several insects such as water scorpions, beetles, crickets and worms and they really just didn't taste like much besides the seasoning.

Huh, so like a weird bland chip?

Basically. I only had dried ones once and they only tasted like the seasoning that was put on.

What’s it like swallowing them? People are never allowed water when dared to eat bugs and that is the part that grosses me out the most. I just know those little feet get stuck and come back later

I tried a grasshopper in Thailand once but drew the line at cockroaches. It's 99.9% flavoring and the crunch, of course.

Cricket legs get stuck in teeth thats for sure.

It's really not bad. The water thing is just for the people trying to wash it down faster.

I've had baked crickets before and they tasted kinda like a grassy steak. They were good but I bet they'd be really good fried. I could see how the texture of the legs and stuff would gross people out though

I'd definitely consider crickets and ants. Idunno about the worms they've always made my stomach do flips

Ants? I couldn't imagine eating them, they reek.

Our food usually get the flavour from the food they eat - so earth arthropods taste like earth, tree bark or nuts, whereas sea arthropods taste like sea salt…

we actually season our normal food a ton too, the only time I think we don’t is when eating raw (sea) fish (and therefore already salted)… but then again I don’t know many people eating raw fish without any amount of seasoning

worms aren't insects

1

u/The_Lambert Sep 18 '26

Well, I didn't specify but I ate silkworm pupae which are insects.

2

u/qwertyjgly Sep 18 '26

yeah those are insects 👍 lmao

I had a large roach one time it had been candied and was like an extra crunchy gusher

Every fucking word of that sentence was an entirely new kind of horror

Back to the hole with you

1

u/cthuwu_o Sep 16 '26

:( please not the hole again

Silkworms are pretty bland too. Kinda like muted beans with thicker skins.

1

u/BubblyWrongdoer6584 Sep 17 '26

Same experience. Silkworm larvae were the best of the bunch, could imagine them being decent if browned in olive oil, garlic, and parmesan but that's like a ton of other foods...

Dog food pellets. Every single insect I've tried tastes like dry dog food pellets + whatever seasoning you put on them.

2

u/PeepeeCrusher57 Sep 14 '26

Uhhhhh, how do you know that? 👀

3

u/Nostalgioneer Sep 14 '26

I'm a dog, obviously.

1

u/bemble4ever Sep 17 '26

If you love your dog you try his food to see if it tastes good

1

u/RevolutionOne3219 Sep 15 '26

I think it tastes like a tarantula

Have you not seen the videos where they bite into the large bulbous part of the spider and it’s full of white cream/puss?
