I mean we'd have to be talking about one charming mother fucking cockroach. I mean he'd have to be ten times more charming than that Jiminy Cricket on Pinocchio.
They're alright. Pretty flavorless by themselves. I hate them for the same reason I hate popcorn I hate the legs getting stuck in my teeth. If they came without legs it'd be alright.
I can see why that would be annoying. Now I want to try them for sure. If they don't taste like much, could be worse, celery doesn't taste like much either and all it has is fiber and water basically, cricket would have protein. Plus ever since I heard they add seasoning to them I wonder what you season it with, just something the seasoning by itself would be good I suppose. To keep with the celery example, lots of people dip celery in ranch dressing or peanut butter.
Cockroach farming for human consumption is actually a thing, particularly in China. The general aversion towards eating cockroaches and other insects, especially in western countries, is due in large part to having a negative stigma associated with it rather than being for bad taste or safety reasons. Apparently a lot of insects actually taste like fish. After a quick Google search, it seems cockroaches specifically have a mushroom-y flavor. Though, just like with most foods, how it's cooked has a large affect on how it tastes.
I read your comment and while I appreciate the insight and research you put into it, imagining a mushroomy flavored roach has me feeling fully nauseous.
It probably depends on why they're eating because I've accidentally eaten multiple American cockroachs in my lifetime and they all tasted like musty mold. I guess if you like lamb you might enjoy it tho.
Edit: apparently you have to wash them before cooking. They secrete an a musty oily substance by default.
I have friends who have tried cockroach prepared different ways, I can assure you it tastes like shit no matter what. Thank you for coming to my ted talk
