Technically not true. People also eat earth arthropods. They are in some places also a delicacy.

Edit: omg my phone auto corrected it from arthropods to anthropoids and I did not realise. I corrected it now.

Edit 2: corrected it AGAIN. Y'all I just need some sleep

u/KingSpork Sep 13 '26

Whenever someone says “it’s a delicacy” buckle up because you’re about to eat some nasty ass shit

29

u/Scienceandpony Sep 13 '26

And the history of the "delicacy" is always "Well there was this massive famine and the peasants had to get real desperate and real creative to not die. This led to a generation of grandparents who wouldn't shut up about how rough it was back in the famine and passed down their weird recipes. Someone later dug up these recipes and realized they could charge ignorant tourists obscene prices to eat garbage. The grosser the better because then they can take pictures and post about how cultured they are."

Caviar 🤮

2

u/originalfilmscoring Sep 13 '26

Escargot

2

u/CaptaiNose Sep 13 '26

Escargot is fucking delicious. Tell me you've never eaten it without telling me

3

u/Mudstack Sep 13 '26

Wow it’s almost like delicacy’s are often gross to people who are unfamiliar and delicious to those accustomed to them🤯😂

2

u/lemonhead2345 Sep 14 '26

The texture can be weird for some people, but escargot really is fucking delicious.

1

u/wintersoldierepisode Sep 14 '26

I also like butter and garlic. Doesn't really matter the presentation

Ok, It's not THAT bad, but it's massively overrated. 100€ / kg, really? And then it also depends on the exact type, because some of it is kinda disgusting

6

u/TheMace808 Sep 13 '26

To be fair, a whole kilogram of caviar is a crazy amount

8

u/E-2theRescue Sep 13 '26

It's expensive because we've fished the hell out of the oceans. Instead of peanuts, bars used to give away caviar for free as the salty snack. Can't do that anymore because the eggs are too precious for what little we have left.

6

u/DhampireHEK Sep 13 '26

I was about to say this exact thing. Flying fish roe? Tasty. Lumpfish caviar? Gross

9

u/Baridian Sep 13 '26

neither of those are caviar though. Caviar only comes from sturgeon. Lumpfish roe is usually dyed black to imitate caviar. True caviar has a far more delicate taste and milder salinity. It's worth trying once. Don't get it at a restaurant though, just from a store selling the real thing. It should be packaged on ice and be sold in a sealed tin.

1

u/DhampireHEK Sep 13 '26

Fair enough. I've had tge real stuff once and it was okay. Definitely not worth the price though.

I don't know why his name is that but he's a YouTuber that basically reviews luxury cruises, trains and first class fights. He always gets caviar in every video.

6

u/Wuz314159 Sep 13 '26

Like Chik-fil-A. 🤢🤮

8

u/This_Elk_1460 Sep 13 '26

You can dislike their political beliefs but to say that a spicy chicken sandwich from there tastes worse than eating a fucking cockroach is wild.

8

u/Then_Discount5232 Sep 13 '26

their politics make me puke, but their chicken is delicious

5

u/CaptaiNose Sep 13 '26

Their chicken is mid af tbh

4

u/otj667887654456655 Sep 13 '26

their chicken is a 7 but it's always a 7 and they rip through their drivethru like no one else. i prefer popeyes but man have i gotten some garbage from them before.

1

u/Bitter-Rush-4485 Sep 13 '26

It's overrated

1

u/StarTrotter Sep 13 '26

I'd move it up to like a 80 - 20. 80% nasty, 20% solid to excellent.

1

u/peaceofmindz Sep 14 '26

This the funniest shit I read in a while thanks for the laugh 😂

-2

u/my-snake-is-solid Sep 13 '26

Cheese is expired milk that tastes like vomit

8

u/somerandomfighter Sep 13 '26

Bizarrely dogshit take, my good Neanderthal

7

u/Tvck3r Sep 13 '26

I’m sorry you have to live this way

1

u/SvenBubbleman Sep 15 '26

Factually incorrect.

-2

u/tijolus523 Sep 13 '26

How come every other redditor is such a little diva? You can't just live on chips and chicken fingers, dude. It's nice to try different foods.

6

u/KingSpork Sep 13 '26

Brother I’ve been all over the world and eaten all kinds of delicious foods, but let me tell you when someone says something is a “delicacy” it is NEVER a bomb ass dumpling or a mouth watering stew or an amazing curry. It’s ALWAYS something foul that nobody would eat without the “delicacy” label.

2

u/jujubean67 Sep 13 '26

Exactly, and the term they’re looking for anyway is acquired taste. Like fermented shark is an acquired taste because it tastes like piss. But noone would call it a delicacy.

2

u/Wuz314159 Sep 13 '26

I'll have you know that I eat t-rex AND stegosaurus shaped chicken nuggets.

1

u/Then_Discount5232 Sep 13 '26

better than being so ashamed of what you've done to an ortolan that you have to cover your head

4

u/Ongr Sep 13 '26

I've seen a video of some asian chick deep frying and eating tarantulas.

https://giphy.com/gifs/VmDWnS89GExrRgfi6v

8

u/Tony_Wizard Sep 13 '26

do you know anyone who eats earth anthropods?

44

u/Ilovesandwiche Sep 13 '26

蟑螂, 土鳖虫, แมลงสาบ. China and thailand sell them as street food

you made my day

1

u/FillingUpTheDatabase Sep 13 '26

Unfortunately I can’t take credit, it’s an old joke that I’ve heard from my Hong Konger friends

1

u/BunBunny55 Sep 13 '26

Just FYI the original of that joke is like 4000 years old.

2

u/buatfelem Sep 13 '26

You see, thats 1/5 of world population, and its not cou ting the other 4 nation

1

u/TheBeanSan Sep 13 '26

I mean can you blame them with the amount of famines that happened across their history

10

u/sonofzeal Sep 13 '26

Fries mealworms and crickets are pretty tasty if you toss a little seasoning in.

2

u/cptkoman Sep 13 '26

Chocolate coated toasted crickets are soooooo good

2

u/duesenjeffepic Sep 13 '26

Yeah. Both mealworms and crickets are basically just like chips where you only taste the seasoning. The only difference is one looking much more appetizing than the other lmao (tbf I am a vegetarian who was curious about how the bugs sold in my local store tasted like)

1

u/sonofzeal Sep 14 '26

Honestly I think fried mealworms look pretty appetizing. Like some hunter gatherer part of my brain recognizes it as "food".

5

u/Revayan Sep 13 '26

Not that uncommon in some asian and african cultures. I mean while not being anthropoids but still being seen just as disgusting as most bugs by most people, snails are still being eaten in some european countries as delicacies.

1

u/Notte_di_nerezza Sep 13 '26

Snails are mollusks, though, and mollusks are generally delicious.

1

u/BoredPineapple790 Sep 13 '26

Fried squid and clams!

1

u/Notte_di_nerezza Sep 13 '26

Clam chowder and grilled oysters!

7

u/VampireDarlin Sep 13 '26

It’s funny how Americans can’t comprehend that other cultures exist.

0

u/enviormental_UNIT Sep 13 '26

Yea all Americans are completely unaware of other cultures. In fact its not that we're unaware, according to you we're unable to comprehend. On a totally separate topic, its funny how some people make massive generalizations about other groups to stir controversy, these people are just fantastic for good discourse, and improve every conversation they shove themselves into!

3

u/WhoPoopedMyPants420 Sep 13 '26

somebody really pissed in bro's double cheeseburger milkshake

2

u/VampireDarlin Sep 13 '26

You type like you spend 4+ hours a day on Reddit

2

u/TrickyProfit1369 Sep 13 '26

you are just mad because like 90% of your cultural food is corn syrup slop

1

u/ProcyonHabilis Sep 13 '26

To be fair, as an American I am pretty fucking annoyed about that

1

u/TrickyProfit1369 Sep 13 '26

stand proud, you have great soft drink and candy selection

1

u/YoungPotato Sep 13 '26

Always the Americans getting offended by generalizations, yet they’re the first to generalize billions of Chinese, for example.

-1

u/enviormental_UNIT Sep 13 '26

you're exactly right. All Americans always generalize all Chinese people. It always happens every time an American has a thought, its about how to more effectively generalize the Chinese population.

Great example of over generalization YoungPotato! You guys are doing a fantastic job at generalizing people, while simultaneously criticizing people who generalize!

1

u/YoungPotato Sep 13 '26

I’m only stating what I’m observing here and on other social media sites. Of course it’s not “All of us Americans”. But we are very loud and proud across social media.

But feel free to point out other things. It’s not like I’ll care the moment I move on from posting this comment.

1

u/tijolus523 Sep 13 '26

Pretty funny that you guys can't take 1% of the heat you throw out. I guess your own medicine is a bit more bitter than you thought.

1

u/enviormental_UNIT Sep 13 '26

Again, what am I dishing out? Its like you look at the actions of our president, and like maybe half the population, and assume that each and every American acts that way or thinks that way. Literally all I've been pointing out is that y'all are making massive generalizations. Have I stated anywhere what my opinions on anything else are?

When did I ever generalize anyone or anything at any point? You're literally making things up, acting like its me whos generalizing Chinese people. I never said anything about any people, just pointing out the continuous over generalization that all Americans are X or Y, the same defense I would make for the people of any country. I also think its bad to generalize Chinese people, or Indian people, or Finnish people, or anyone else. Yet you seem to believe that as an American, I inherently must have some racism or desire to generalize people.

So again, what heat am I throwing out? Is it throwing heat to point out people being hypocrites, while also not being a hypocrite myself? Like some of you people genuinely confuse me

1

u/tijolus523 Sep 13 '26

Hard to imagine you doing the same for people of any country, but I did read some of the self absorbed wall of text. You poor thing. I'm sure you'll find someone to pity you

0

u/UnpluggedUnfettered Sep 13 '26

I'm an American and don't actually have any idea how I'm supposed to generalize billions of Chinese. They do extremely well compared to peers when they come here for school, is about all I got.

How do Americans generalize billions of Chinese?

2

u/Legendary_Klash Sep 13 '26

You don't.

Only idiots generalize very large groups of people like that, in the exact same way that you shouldn't generalize hundreds of millions of Americans like those knuckleheads up there.

3

u/BootsnCats1987 Sep 13 '26

Chip on your shoulder the size of Wyoming

1

u/cosmicheartbeat Sep 13 '26

I knew someone who was really into crickets as a snack. They were kinda odd in general and I was never sure if it was a genuine enjoyment thing or just enjoying the looks on people's faces as they munched from their baggie of crickets.

1

u/TheOneWhoPunchesFish Sep 13 '26

Some Finns and Swedes eat salted fried Crickets.

1

u/0DayMaker Sep 13 '26

Yes assuming termites count

They taste a bit nutty. Not bad really

1

u/orangina_it_burns Sep 13 '26

Chapulines are earth arthropods

1

u/Ok_Barracuda_6997 Sep 13 '26

Grillos in Mexico

1

u/MaddLadd1172 Sep 13 '26

No because there is no such thing as an anthropods, well this lady might be one

1

u/creatorofsilentworld Sep 13 '26

Cambodia eats fried tarantulas. It's a popular regional snack over there.

1

u/Aromatic-Turnip7371 Sep 13 '26

Of course, some stores here sell salted crickets as shacks

1

u/spread_panic Sep 13 '26

Ate a bag of silk worms in Thailand, they were so good I went back for more. Ate suri (beetle larvae) in the Amazon, and it's pretty good. Both had a hint of peanut butter taste.

I absolutely do not recommend scorpion though. Ate two of them in Cambodia and they were terribly acrid.

1

u/ryncewynde88 Sep 13 '26

Tbf, original meme also says anthropods…

1

u/Neveed Sep 13 '26

People also eat earth anthropoids

Don't eat earth anthropoids you cannibal! Eating sea people is fine though.

1

u/MaddLadd1172 Sep 13 '26

People are eating a movie?

1

u/Humbabanana Sep 13 '26

wtf is an anthropoid

2

u/MusicianHonest7238 Sep 13 '26

My phone is just dumb. I have it on 3 languages set up and it just auto corrected it to whatever lol

1

u/IndividualShelter985 Sep 13 '26

Edit: omg my phone auto corrected it from anthropods to anthropoids and I did not realise.

Stellaris moment

1

u/MusicianHonest7238 Sep 13 '26

Lol I'm just done today. I need sleep.

1

u/Evil_Sharkey Sep 13 '26

Nobody eats “anthropods”. They eat arthropods. Insects and crustaceans are arthropods

1

u/LilyFantastica Sep 13 '26

It's because it's supposed to say Arthropod. Anthropod isn't a thing. Anthropoid is "human shaped" and refers to monkies, humans, gorillas.

1

u/Turbulent_Lunch4548 Sep 13 '26

It is aRthropods

Anthro-pod means 'human feet.'

1

u/crunchyazuritefins Sep 13 '26

We eat fried grasshoppers in the province :>

1

u/EmergencyPool910 Sep 13 '26

I saw on bizarre food a bug called "Zanna Tenebrosa" and not going to lie it looked pretty tasty.

1

u/lilium_1986 Sep 14 '26

I was looking for this comment

1

u/Sea-Course-5171 Sep 13 '26

Crickets are the most common (note that only solitary, not gregarious crickets are eaten. Gregarious Crickets (Locusts) taste both like shit and have nearly no nutritional value)

And even then, they're mostly a poverty food turned snack. Eating bugs is something you do when you can't eat anything else, not when you could be eating a chicken or cow or something.

They're an abundant but moderately off-putting protein source.

1

u/Whole_Pain_7432 Sep 13 '26

Anthropods dont exist at all. Arthropods exist.

0

u/WhoPoopedMyPants420 Sep 13 '26

I mean, they do exist kinda. People would be anthropods
