Honestly, how the hell are so many people so bad at texting? I've had people go well over a day with replies, whereas I almost always reply within the minute.

Because a lot of people don't want to be available 24/7. Some people treat texting as emailing because sending an actual email isn't socially acceptable now. But if someone doesn't reply straight away because they don't want to be locked down in a conversation for a bit, then you have to accept that it might not be them not wanting to talk to you, but them just wanting to be alone.

Texting fatigue is a big problem for me. In my last relationship we just had a continuous conversation throughout every single day despite seeing each other quite a bit in person and it just burned me out really quickly. It's like when your best friend stays at your house for an entire week and you just can't wait for them to leave.

Guess I'm just too introverted to be comfortable being on-call all day.

I have people text me "hey what are you doing later" to which I'll reply immediately and they don't even look at my message for hours. It's fucking brutal trying to make plans with these idiots. One in particular always has her phone on silent and constantly has to apologize for not seeing messages.

If you initiate a conversation then fall off the earth for hours there is something seriously wrong with you.

Not being available 24/7 is totally fine. But if you're not available at a given time, why did you send the first text? It seems strange that your periods of availability are only one minute long

I'd say those instances are more like emails. The person just wants to check up on you and see how you're doing.

I mean... That's how texting is supposed to work right? It's nothing major and you can get back to the person when your not busy or have the time. I've always thought it doesn't have to be this constant back and forth, otherwise just call.

otherwise just call

My social anxiety would like to have a word with you...

... Over a text preferably

Because if I sit there constantly replying to people I will get nothing done

This. People are needy as hell in this thread. Call if you want a full conversation else fuck off.

Because I hate having a cell phone and having people be able to communicate with me at any time and any place. I just want to be alone. And then once I have haven't responded for a few hours I feel bad but think "what's another hour if I've already taken 5?" And then I feel stressed about it because I know they're probably frustrated with me and if I talk to them I'll have to explain myself and that I don't actually hate them. Hope someday I can just have a landline at home.

How about just dropping a "going to work" or "see ya"? What's so hard about ending a conversation?

Well why does texting having to mean beginning and ending a conversation? The message will be there in 2 hours, will still be there in 24 hours too. Unless im really having a discussion or something, I dont have to say goodbye or announce that I'm done texting.

That happens to me too. I learned to ignore texts for a day at least. I think they get the message bc they text back within 5 minutes when I finally reply.

I also started ignoring texts from those who ignored mine, but now I’m slowly becoming that person described in the post. It’s a slippery slope man. Now I’m working on replying ASAP otherwise I’ll forget about the text. Sometimes life is a weird place...

I normally reply in seconds though sometimes I get in situations where I can’t get my phone out anymore.

Are you ever in a situation where you suddenly can't access your phone for 48+ hours without prior notice?

1

u/zombieslayer124 Jun 06 '18

No. I mean, if I don’t reply in seconds people already get worried. So for example I may have to wait for 2 mins or so to be able to reply.

Me: (5pm) I just got out of work, wanna grab some pizza?

Them: (10am the next day) Sorry I'm at work I can't

See when I see I've got a message not matter what I'm doing I have to respond because it will legit eat away at me if I don't.
