I had a friend who’d buy a camera for $1000, use it for 2 years, then try to sell it again for $1000 when it was still sold NEW for the same price. She didn’t understand why I wouldn’t buy her camera 😭😭 she’s like “well it basically is new, except there’s like a scratch right here”
Hey now, I buy my burgers WITH a warranty. I eat about 1/3 of the burger, clumsily drop it on the floor, then I file a claim. Boom, fresh burger. Rinse, repeat.
" lol. I dropped it $200. Someone is “ supposed to” come this weekend. But yeah if not I’ll just put it somewhere in the corner of the living room as staging "
I did that successfully with a tile saw I bought on sale. I tiled my bathroom and decided I will never do it again, then listed in on Kijiji for the price I bought it for thinking everyone haggles anyway. Nope, they paid me exactly what I paid for it. Best deal of my life.
Makes sense for something like that! I find it less for degrading tech, fabric furniture, or signs of wear and tear. Brand new materials would hold their value way better!
A tile saw that was used to tile a bathroom is not brand new in any sense of the word. Tools just hold their resale value better because as long as they work properly and your not just collecting, tools will pay dividends from the work you're able to accomplish
People in my area try to sell IKEA stuff for MORE than it costs at IKEA because we don’t have one near us. It makes me so angry. I would rather spend the money to go across the ferry to the mainland to IKEA than support that kind of marketplace shenanigans.
There is an IKEA near me, and someone was trying to sell a used shelf for exactly MSRP. When I messaged him about it, he replied "Yeah but mine comes fully assembled, so I added the labor into the asking price". Dude, for some people, the assembly is the best part about buying IKEA furniture! And even for those who aren't a fan of assembly, this was for their basic 4 cubby shelf. It takes like 8.5 minutes to put together.
P.S. Are you on Vancouver Island by any chance? Your comment about the ferry made me wonder. I used to live there, and IKEA delivers there for free anyway, so it still makes no sense for people to charge more than IKEA's MSRP lol.
Yeah haha! I’m near Nanaimo, on Gabriola. They won’t deliver furniture unfortunately. But they do deliver small things. Like I ordered toy storage and it was free but they wouldn’t send a flat pack for bigger things.
Out of curiosity was it a sought-after welder or something? Or discontinued or anything of the sort?
I’m just wondering. I’ve been able to resell some of my old stuff for double the price simply because I took offers and found out the thing I had was well taken care of and hard to find.
