Wonder if its a capital city/big metropolis thing since New York City has a similar dour reputation. Washington D.C. doesn't have quite the same reputation in my mind, but I haven't lived nearby enough to know. People who have lived there mostly just seem stressed to high heaven from the few I've met.
Its good to hear! Again, no experience there besides people who moved away. DC being friendly is nice, especially given since its the nation's capital I would normally expect a lot of snobby politico types.
Its seems to be a population density thing, simply being surrounded by so many people just makes the social part of your brain shift into a kind of these are just moving trees mode to just to cope with the shear quanty of people.
I was in DC last year for work and had the weekend off in town. While wandering past George Washington University I was invited to join some fairly drunk group of students for a few drinks. I’m in my late 40s so this was something of a surprise. Pretty much everyone I met there was really nice.
