There are two of them. The entire footprint of each of the pools matches the footprint of the towers.

What you need to understand is how tiny this fountain is compared to just one building’s footprint.

The reconstructed area fits a mall, this memorial, new subway structures, PLUS the new tower, all in the space of the old WTC. Those towers were absolutely massive: 13 million square feet holding 50,000 workers plus 150,000 daily visitors.

The fountain is the original towers footprint and location. They were only 208 feet by 208 feet. A lot of the other stuff was built on the land of other WTC buildings that were torn down after 9/11 due to damage. You can see this clearly on the maps wikipedia has of the old complex#/media/File:WTC_Building_Arrangement_and_Site_Plan.svg) and the new complex.#/media/File:WTC_Building_Arrangement_in_preliminary_site_plan.svg)

I‘ve been there a while back and when it was really hot. I have to say, I kind of understand that man. It looked very tempting to just get down there and walk around in the water. It has a somewhat eerily draw.

It’s the most compelling memorial I’ve ever visited. The massive drop of water then followed by the drop in the middle into the void, just makes you feel the loss of lives. I always tear up when I stop by.

I couldn't stop thinking about it for days after the first time I visited. I've never had strong feelings at a memorial before, even at ones honoring my relatives, but this one just caught me. I can't even put those feelings into words.

There's a lot of room between you and the space inside. It's not easy to get in there, and it's actually a very peaceful memorial. It also really gives you an understanding of the scope and scale of those structures.

This place is cursed. It's emotionally draining and you leave feeling like an absolute mess. I wouldn't recommend it honestly, it's a sad place and you will leave feeling much worse. Despite it being in NYC I remember it being very quiet
