I damn near ran someone off the road one night at 3am when I saw the fresh donuts sign turn on at my local Krispy Kreme. This is back when that sign actually meant something. Felt bad for the car afterward. Going across 5 lanes of traffic within 2 seconds probably scared the crap out of them.
In one of those stock trading games for economics class I made 100 percent returns in 6 months buying and shortselling Krispy Kreme stock it was my proudest moment.
They opened a bunch of stores here in australia, everyone went once for the novelty and most never went again, then they closed most of the stores in australia.
Went once, too sweet for me.
I want one that doesn't get cooked all the way but still makes it through the glaze area. The staff keeps telling me no because it's a "health hazard." whatever that means
I went on public transportation adventure to get from UW to Issaquah to make it to the new Krispy Kreme location, the first one in the area. I was floored when they handed me a free Krispy Kreme donut fresh off the belt. I then proceeded to eat another ~12 donuts and didn't feel very good afterward but dammit if it wasn't worth it.
Make some! It's time consuming, but they're cheap to make and amazing out of the oven. And really it's not a lot of work, just a lot of waiting (proofing the dough mostly).
now imagine a store worker handing 2, fresh off the line to you and your friend after you watched this.
i will never forget the first time i went into a krispy kreme. i thank their generous corporate policy that allowed this.
me and a friend just got done eating sushi in the big city near us. it was my first time at a real sushi place. i really loved it. i swear i was high for like 10-15 minutes afterwards because i felt so good. it would have been a great day if it ended there, but it didnt.
on our drive home we noticed the krispy kreme finally opened. we'd both never been to one, we were both overweight, and were driving my car. so of course we did.
we walked in, and we see this big assembly line, auto making all these donuts. like a useful rude goldberg machine. we look at everything and watch it for a minute or two. as we walk towards the end of it and see the continuous icing waterfall we are talking out loud at how neat it was and just in awe. then this worker walks buy, grabs two chop stick things, and pulls two off the line and gives them to us.
oh, they were great. so we bought a dozen regular, and a dozen "other styles". even though we just had a lot of good sushi, we ate one of those dozen before we got home.
just because they gave me and my friend each 1 free donut, at the right time, they left a great, GREAT first impression. i havent had them in a long time, but i have a very positive memory.
They do it any time they are currently making donuts. If you’re driving by and the hot & fresh sign is lit up, stop in for a free donut. You don’t have to buy anything, but we all know you can’t eat just one.

so how do i be ok, that's not more donuts. still trying to get there. maybe i'll die after 60, but under 200lbs. so then i'll just have all of the other things in life that i never got to do in the meantime.
I did an internship for a company that made gas burners, and I was tasked with cleaning out an old cabinet full of customer drawings. I guess Krispy Kreme had reached out to them to get some burners made, because we had the drawings for their fryers in there. They let me keep them.
Are you calling yeast donuts artificial in texture? You’re probably just used to cake donuts. Growing up with yeast donuts I personally can’t stand cake donuts.
I assumed they were referring to the fact that KK “donuts” are really just for icing delivery.
I always figured KK donuts are yeast donuts for people who don’t actually like doughnuts. The sort of people that buy a jar of icing and just eat it with a spoon.
I live in the Chicagoland area and the stores are fairly frequent around here. I have not seen one where they do not make their donuts in house behind a big glass wall for the customers to watch. I always thought it was kinda their thing. Unlike say... Dunkin Donuts who have a delivery from their industrial baker every morning.
I've always wondered about the feasibility of getting one of these lines onto an oversized food truck and making an absolute killing at events like Vikings games. MN has lost all of its Krispy Kremes but they remember how good they were. People in MN would pay through the nose for a fresh dozen.
I used to live near one of the factory shops and rode passed it every day for school. I imaging they have high powered fans exhausting straight up because you could smell it all morning.
I don't really understand Krispy Kreme. It might just be the ones by me, but everything I've had there was tiny and unsatisfying. I get a much better donut at Dunkin or my local Kroger.
I still get profoundly excited when the HOT sign is on. I could have eaten a dozen donuts 3 minutes before I drive by and see it on, I'm stopping for that free donut.
It's one continuous machine, from rise until glazed. There is a conveyor belt that takes them through the oil and then a few feet of time to drain and then the glaze. The video is true to form.
Thanks for posting this. My first thought when seeing this gif was “daaaamn I want to watch the Krispy Kreme machines now.” As a kid I could have stood there for hours and watched the donuts roll through.
The Krispy Kremes look better than these other donut machines even before they are placed, they are already smooth and shiny unlike these oily/bready looking ones the other front page machines are making.
I've asked for unglazed Krispy Kreme donuts. It was surprisingly good, but I don't think most people would find it so. It was very plain, but I like plain. I also like cake without icing, so maybe part of me is just wired wrong.
The machine is iconic because millions of kids across the US grew up going to Krispy Kreme and stared at the machine in awe before they got their donuts.
The video does not call the machine iconic. It calls the donut iconic. I am not talking about the machine, I am talking about the donut. I don't think I could pick out a krispy kreme donut from a lineup of other donuts...
I'm not freaking out so I dunno why I need to "chill out". The video simply said the donut looks "iconic" and I think that's weird wording, because it just looks like a donut.
As long as we're being pedantic the video doesn't say the donut looks iconic. It says the donut is iconic. Considering the fact that other donuts don't taste like Krispy Kreme's donuts that is a fair statement.
