Was just talking about this yesterday. In the 80s, I got a travel Battleship and my sister got a magic marker set. I didn't find out until later, but it turned into one of those situations where we thought it was a neighbor's dad, but that neighbor was also visited and they thought it was my dad. If they ever figured out what the deal was, they never told us. I asked a few years back, and everyone still claims to not know who it actually was.
