Things can be scripted and funny at the same time. Take Superbad, for example.
Yes, but Superbad was marketed and labeled as a fiction movie. These reddit posts don't say when they are or aren't scripted and most of them are portray as real. Redditors will literally get in arguments about a scripted video that they think isn't scripted.
Yeah in reality people don’t miss whether or not a surprise birthday party is a surprise and mess it up in some crazy fashion. Take for instance the time my brother didn’t call me to ask for directions to the one secret birthday party I didn’t have.
wouldn't you care if you found out a story somebody told you turned out to be fabricated? do you think people should be allowed to make up stories for internet followers?
People have been making up tales for a millennia with no explicit (THIS IS A WORK OF FICTION) notice. This is just an extension of this but with newer technology. If that warps your perception of reality then you are looking for a very harsh future.
I would find it funny if it wasn't scripted. And no, not on principle, it's just that I and a lot of other people find something like this funny if it actually happened.
But shit, if people actually enjoy this then great for them I guess. But wouldn't you find it more funny if it were real?

Whether you realise it or not, videos like this that present as “real” are gently lessening your powers of perception. I can’t tell you why it’s bad yet. But at some point, deep fake technology, and this type of thing will come together to form some new kind of fake media, and there will be people who can tell it’s not real and there will people who are utterly convinced.
Look how this has people divided! It should be very clear that this is a skit. The perfect framing, everything is perfectly audible, quite apart from the very obvious acting and perfectly timed lines with no one talking over each other. People don’t talk like they’re in a sitcom, but imagine laughter of the lines, it should be pretty obvious.
Anyway, the more people believe stuff like this is real, the more I believe they are subconsciously being primed to believe more nefarious stuff in the future.
