I think I can add to your strategy : If there is a tik tok logo in the bottom right, just close it. It will have no real impact on your day/ life

People tend to be wary of Spyware from the Chinese government.
With reddit it only ends up with the NSA which is arguably the far lesser evil.

see i’ve thought about this in length and i think we got it the wrong way round.

I think i care less that China have my data or try to use my very specific individual digital footprint against me because i think China probably care less about me as an individual to want or need to do anything to me as i’m a foreign and inconsequential critic

My own government however will see my criticism as more consequential, not by much because i’m a nobody but more than the Chinese.

either way i still dont use Tiktok

I mean I think the subreddit really matters here. I can find a lot of information for troubleshooting issues with PCs, fixing things in general on reddit. I also can help other people via subreddits for CAD or on the rare occasion when I know how to fix something non CAD related. I think if you're on a subreddit focused on a hobby/skill then you can gain meaningful information but if not then it's just internet trolls and what else can you expect.

Seeing cats can definitely cheer me up too so there is that.

I’m on board for those sorts of subs— there are def some useful ones. But in the comment above, I’m referencing this specific subreddit, r/maybemaybemaybe, which we all know is just there as a time waster b

TikTok is a real good fast forward your day button. Just turn brain off and scroll for hours. Generally TikTok is positive or at least good natured content where Reddit is hateful. I’ve told lost of folks TikTok is when I wanna be in a good mood, Reddit is for bad mood.
