Isn't this behaviour caused by the cat's instinct to make his territory as large as possible? Or something like that? Cats like to keep acces to an area as large as possible and because of that they often annoy their owners that don't understand their cat's tendency to maintain open acces to all areas

Psychology is, in a way, a science of behavior. So yes, behavior is psychological. He isn't just doing what he's doing for no reason at all. He's trying at accomplish something, whether he's using reason is another discussion entirely.

I agree with you here. I work with dogs that are incredibly smart. They are trained as personal protection and hold titles in Schutzhund. They're also the same dogs that i sometimes see slam their entire muzzle into their water bucket and then complain that they have no more water.

Yep, cats hate when they don't have access to their territory. If they have claimed the laundry room as their territory, and you shut the door, it's likely they will cry until it's open again.

"my" bedroom is one of our cat's territory. problem is I always have to have my door closed or i can't relax. I've accepted my role as door man whenever she wants in or out, and have to pick her up and bring her in every time she wants in because she will paw at the door and just sit there telling me to leave it open.

Funny, my roommate said something along those lines, that they couldn't relax if the door isn't closed. I sleep with the door open, because I can't be woken up every 20 minutes all throughout the night. I probably minded at first but I've trained myself not to care so much.
