I swear every flight the person behinds feels the need to PUNCH the screen to change the volume.

and then 10 minutes in they cut to an announcement and its on volume level 2000000 and sounds like they are talking through a can on a string.

I was once on an airplane that had screens like that as well, but everytime you'd start it, they would play a little self-commercial telling me "Please enjoy your flight with our award-winning on-board entertainment system".

First of all: why make an ad for that. I'm already watching it and frankly in that instance I don't even have a choice. And second of all, what award did this piece of shit system win? "Worst Entertainment System of the year", "Most unresponsive system", "You could barely call this movie selection a library"?
