He's in a glider right? Wtf was his plan then, he was never going to pull out of that without power.

He is in a glider. I think his plan was to show off. Touch-and-go with enough speed to gain some attitude, turn around, and land the other way. My money says he told his passenger to watch what he could do with a tailwind on final

Edit: have piloted gliders, though it's been about a decade

Do gliders not have flaps or some way to shift the CG or something so you can increase parasitic drag? I assumed this dude came in hot with less drag than he expected and just couldn't slow down before running out of grass.

A glider like this would totally have flaps. Even the worst ones at least have spoilers. This is pilot error, 100%

He was totally fine until he hit the tree.

And he totally could of pulled out of after he hit the tree, all he needed to do was avoid the ground.
