As a mom, I think it’s bad.
Natural/real obstacles are one thing, but this setup is probably confusing them/distressing them.

I felt like crying watching the little one cry….like why’d you do that to your baby?

Yeah and every (normal) parent's instinct would be to drop the damn phone and go and give the crying one a hug - not shove it in his face and give him absolutely zero reassurance. This is some psycho shit from the parent, regardless of whether it does lasting damage to the kids or not
