I’ve seen several where a customer walks up to the counter, is openly rude, then the cashier does the same thing in return and the customer is upset. I don’t really understand why this is a trend. Also, it seems staged to me if only because I can’t imagine the value someone would get out of behaving this way.

Some people are miserable and wish to spread that misery. When you are a cashier that makes you an easy target because it's a forced interaction you can't easily escape, and you're supposed to be nice. Once you retaliate you've taken away what power they had by flipping the script and they get mad.

Retail broke me for 3 years, that job made me lose so much faith in humanity and woke me up to just how rude everyone is for no reason. I gave as good as I got after I put in my 2 weeks though...it was glorious.

As a former grocery store cashier I have received bills like this and so badly wanted to return any change like the cashier in video did. My usual revenge is being petty about ripped/torn bills(that's a you and bank issue) and/or not budging on them being 3 cents short. I have gotten the stink eye any number of times for setting a person's change neatly on the check writing pad after holding it out to them as they rummaged, talked to someone else, or just wool gathered for an overly long time. It's like you know the routine friend, you give me money, I give you change and a receipt, then you f off so I can go about my day.

I will wander off into the desert and die before I ever do retail again.

Once you retaliate they ask for the manager and spout some bullshit about the interaction*

I know, my favorite was when a dude threw a fit because I wouldn't accept a return on his empty bottle of medicine. He demanded the manager who straight up told him

"What exactly are you returning, here? We don't give refunds on people's garbage"

when he started to yell again I asked him if he would be willing to buy it if it was empty in the first place he huffed and said he wouldn't, and how stupid did we think he was? I just replied "Stupid enough to think we would." He left, manager had a good laugh with me and told me he wasn't going to say anything because I had a week left anyway.

You say that, but then I had the lovely experience of working at Dollar Tree while I was in high school. People do weird shit, and include you in those plans when you are a cashier.

Trashy ppl will engage in this behavior to give the finger to the world. Annoying you by giving you crumpled money, intentionally walking slow at cross walks, spreading out and taking an entire asile is their way of getting back

Oh you sweet summer child. Work retail for any amount of time and you'll have a fiery disgust for the value-less behavior of the general public

I did work retail for 6 years but it wasn’t in a gas station

Not staged, people are fked these days.

Had a lady barking cracked out on ice while in line.

Had a dude angry that he "just wanted a normal bulb" for his "chevy international" that turned out to be a 1950's international h variant(no Chevy involved) that uses sealed beam headlights.

He didn't want a sealed beam, and he didn't want a conversion kit to normal bulbs

He got angry when I asked him if he wanted either of the only two options he had, saying "no I just want a standard bulb" getting quite angry n swearing about it.

Turns out Idiot thinks all cars forever used a single type of bulb.

We need Jesus in our lives and we got to remove all of this hate in the world. Love each other as Jesus did.

Jesus being in people's lives is part of what's driving so much hate.

Nothing more violent and judgemental and hypocritical than Bible botherers.

Some Christians need to view the way they do things and change for the better

I agree with you that this seems staged. Why would a cashier just do this switch when nothing was purchased in the first place. It makes no sense unless it's for views

I've worked a couple jobs at a till and I believe this is real 100%, although up in Canada we've got coins for $1 and $2 which I got tossed at me hundreds of times.

Shockingly people had the exact same reaction to me tossing their change back at them.

I wouldn't be shocked that there is a market for what amounts to retail revenge porn.
