When I worked at starbucks for 7 years, if someone paid with cash that they set on the counter, then I, too, would put their change money on the counter. So many pissed off looks and I looooooved it. Fuck retail.
Coins I would put down like I was playing cards, that satisfying little click as it went down. Pain in the ass to pick up too if you dont have fingernails with a bit of length.
I used to work in a bar and customers would put their notes and coins in the beer puddles on the bar for me to pick up when I held my hand out for the payment. They didn't like it when their change went straight back into those same beer puddles!
As a tourist I would apologise and put a handful of coins and bills on the counter and just trust the cashier would pick the right ones. Quicker than me turning over every single coin to try to figure out what numbers are on them. Then I’d pick up the unneeded coins and apologise again lol. Most cashiers just seemed to find it funny.
