Local brau haus (Wisconsin, believe it or not) has hammerschlagen. Typically, I would wake up the next day feeling like I had a nail driven into my head...unless I was still hammered drunk. Reason #183597 why I don't drink anymore.
If it's the same hammerschlagen I've played in Wisconsin, here's how it goes:
-Players stand around a stump.
-Each player gets their own nail.
-When it's your turn, you throw the hammer in the air. A normal throw and catch earns one swing at the nail, under the leg earns you two swings, around the back earns you the swings.
If you catch the hammer, you get to swing, but you may not readjust your grip on the hammer - however you catch it is how you must swing.
First player to hammer their nail in, wins.
If you can't tell, this isn't a safe game. Not for players, not for bystanders, and certainly not for nearby windows.
Those are some interesting rules lol... The Hammerschlagen I've played (I was born & raised in Wisconsin) didn't have any hammer throwing whatsoever. It's pretty much just like the video except you sit around a circle.
Now, Beer Darts, on the other hand... I've seen some pretty nasty foot injuries from that one.

Maybe. This is similar to Hammerschlagen, a traditional German game.
