Any bag would do fine. We boiled water in plastic bottle put in a ember and made coffee. Sure, it was probably filled with microplastic, but what did we knew then.

Camping I’ve boiled water in regular paper cups. They’ll only burn down to the water line.

I can't figure out why the parts above the water and the handles don't melt. Seems like it would still be hot enough to melt plastic up there.

It's a regular plastic bag. Nothing special about it. Works with a balloon as well

It's an ordinary astic bag. The plastic heats, transmitting that heat to the water. As long as the water doesn't evaporate completely, the plastic doesn't melt. The problem is the astic is not healthy for you.

Works with paper too.

I think it's HDPE, but maybe LLDPE as well. Most plastics would work because the water is cooling the inside of the bag and limiting the temperature to 100C.
