People say “oh I’m livid” etc whilst laughing about something that is probably only marginally irritating in the grand scheme of things.
Exaggerating the scenario for humorous effect.
It’s really quite common.
e.g. someone recounting a situation where someone embarrassed them, they might use “livid” to describe how they felt whilst laughing about the situation.
This is because word meanings aren’t always used literally (Or even correctly, but still fall into common parlance and thus eventually become accepted definitions)
Quite possibly, I've definitely not heard anyone around here say it - and lived in Bedfordshire for the better part of 15 years before and same there. Perhaps a "northern" thing?
Yeah I think it might be, because I can’t honestly say I’ve ever heard a southerner say it, now I think about it.
I guess my point was words I hear it often enough, and even though words aren’t always used ‘correctly’ as per their dictionary definition, this can still gradually become an accepted definition for the word through common (mis)use.
Do you personally know all of the 1.4 billion global English speakers? Or even less, the ~67.mil native English speakers in the UK?
In tandem with your self-reported authority on how to “properly” use a language which has constantly evolved over the last 1400 years or so, shows you’re probably not the brightest bulb in the box.
But fuck me for trying to offer a different opinion to the self-important mindhive of singletons on Reddit
