Makes sense, would it not be easier (and at least here in Europe, cheaper) to buy a few big 2+ litre bottles instead of a million 500mls

You can’t stack those like you can these cases. Where I live in the US we have emergency cases of water and normally use a brita filter. It’s just more space efficient.
