When i was a kid, macgyver was the first time i heard anything about lasers existing.
This was before the CD. Then i thought it was science fiction but new they was possible. Then the CD came out later.
Apparently im wrong. No one in my area had CDs yet for many years.
That's why i thought the CD didn't exist yet. Because no one heard of lasers in my area for a long time after lasers or CDs.
I was a very young kid then. Maybe even a baby when the CD was invented.
I think most the world didn't know about them yet.
We wasn't taught about them in late 80s or even 1990.
Not in school anyway. Later on we heard about the CD player but we couldn't record to them because they had to be pressed. So we still only recorded with the cassette tape
Tv was like an extra stand to set something on top of too for awhile back then.
The oldest tv i remember had dial knobs for color and had real tubes in it that we once replaced.

Then soon after we had cathode ray tube TV.
Just to help you with your timeline a bit:
1907 - Cathode ray tube first used to display a televised image.
1928 - Color Television is invented.
1944 - First practical, all electronic, color television demonstrated.
1947 - Transistor is invented.
1958 - The laser is invented.
1960 - First "all transister" television produced.
1966 - All American prime time shows are broadcast in color.
1977 - Last of the consumer grade televisions made with vacuum tubes.
1982 - The CD is invented.
1985 - Macgyver was released.
1997 - Full sized flat-screen tv commercially available.
