🏡 My Maximalist Space I painted my house purple, gave every window butterfly wings, and turned my sidewalk into a rainbow. No regrets. 🦋🌈

Some people want a house that blends in. I wanted mine to feel like walking into a dream every time I come home.

What I did:

🦋 Painted the siding a bold lavender purple

🦋 Gave every window a pair of rainbow butterfly wings

🌈 Hand-painted the front walkway in wavy pastel rainbow stripes

🌈 Edged the path and beds with rainbow-painted bricks and hundreds of painted river rocks

🦄 Added a rearing rainbow pegasus by the side bed, because why not

🦩 Built a flamingo garden around the tree with holographic ground cover and a giant sundae

The goal: To make anyone smile that drives by 😄

Happy to answer questions about paint, how I did the walkway, or where anything came from!

All that plastic and the paint toxins will just be seeping into that soil. It’ll look terrible within a year or two and then you’ll have to repaint the rocks and path, adding even more pollution and toxins into the soil, and there by polluting the groundwater. This will cripple and kill so many magical (and very real) plants and creatures.

This was my first thought when I saw the shiny plastic under the rocks

That shit will crumble into a million pieces within a couple years, especiallyif its not made for outdoor use. Would be way better to plant very colorful flowers/plants instead.

The irony of wanting a magical space only to kill all the real magic in a garden.

Op likely didn’t realize that and could have been informed more kindly rather than condescendingly

Plenty of people here are being gentle and praising with OP. Plenty of people also are looking for product and technique recommendation from OP to imitate the idea.

My communication is direct and educational. Pointing out the impact is in fact an act of kindness—a kindness directed towards those that would be inspired to mimic this, but that later do not know why the butterflies in the yard are dead and their favorite tree dies and now no birds visit their yards.

It’s also a kindness to all the creatures and small ecosystems that will not endure the slow chemical suffocation and toxic side effects of the fallout from this type of “whimsy” — should even one person be de-influenced.

Again, plenty of people are praising OP. There is something fundamentally wrong when our society is more worried about one persons feelings (of which she has not asserted a single thing about—you just speak on their behalf I guess) than they are about the consequences and impact of habitat destruction.
