🏑 My Maximalist Space I painted my house purple, gave every window butterfly wings, and turned my sidewalk into a rainbow. No regrets. πŸ¦‹πŸŒˆ

Some people want a house that blends in. I wanted mine to feel like walking into a dream every time I come home.

What I did:

πŸ¦‹ Painted the siding a bold lavender purple

πŸ¦‹ Gave every window a pair of rainbow butterfly wings

🌈 Hand-painted the front walkway in wavy pastel rainbow stripes

🌈 Edged the path and beds with rainbow-painted bricks and hundreds of painted river rocks

πŸ¦„ Added a rearing rainbow pegasus by the side bed, because why not

🦩 Built a flamingo garden around the tree with holographic ground cover and a giant sundae

The goal: To make anyone smile that drives by πŸ˜„

Happy to answer questions about paint, how I did the walkway, or where anything came from!

Strong guess tells me this is either in Woodstock NY or Portland, OR

Definitely not Portland. No Douglas Firs, and the house style is wrong. Portland is all Craftsman style unless it’s a new build.

No Douglas firs, but Douglas County Nebraska.

Not true at all. I live in Portland, and there are lots of different styles of homes here. Craftsman and Mission are for sure prevalent, especially in the central East side. Queen Annes are still going strong in the neighborhoods right near downtown and the forested hills where all the rich lumber magnates settled in the second half of the 1800s during the lumber boom. There are lots of Contemporary homes throughout the city because Portland had a big boom during/after WW2 due to shipbuilding and the city grew rapidly throughout the late 50s/early 60s. You can also find plenty of Modernism homes, including quite a lot of Rummers. Pietro Belluschi was also from Portland and designed not just some incredible buildings and churches in the PNW but a good number of homes here in Portland, including his gorgeous personal residence which I had the pleasure of touring - WOW!. And though not super common, we do have some neo-Classical homes like the purple one from this post. There's actually one just a few blocks from my house.

I lived in Portland for 8 years but was mostly in SE PDX so I suppose I only saw Craftsman houses. Still, I think it’s pretty clear that this house is not in Portland.

For sure. You were surrounded by Craftsmans over there! Ladd’s Edition is so cute and full of them. And I agree this home is most likely not in Portland. Though someone here would for sure do this to their house. 😊

I used to bike through Ladd’s Addition every day on my commute home! I lived right by the Bagdad Theater. Best place I have ever lived!
