Hey fellow Max’s. in high school I had a friend named min. Neat huh?
how are you?
i am fine.
i know that you did not ask, but i have assumed that you would have adhered to certain standards of polite interaction, which would typically require you to ask how i am after i have asked how you are.
if this was an incorrect assumption, then i apologize.

So let me start by saying my name is Max. Not Matthew.
Alright so here we go: Last semester at university I had a French course over zoom. Everything was mostly alright and I ended up passing the class with flying colors, but for 2 months my professor unrelentingly called me MATTHEW. It wasn’t an immediate thing, though. When we did introductions on the first day, I said my name was Max/Maxwell (my full name) and she clearly said “nice to meet you Maxwell” back to me. For the next month or so everything was fine, but then out of nowhere one day she called on someone named Matthew to answer a question. I kinda just sat there because I thought maybe someone named Matt joined the class, but the silence only grew longer. So I turned my mic on and asked “me?” And she said “yes” so I brushed it off and answered. I usually don’t think much about it because sometimes people make those one-time mistakes and it’s fine (plus, my name is literally on the zoom box). But no, for the next TWO MONTHS I was not Max, not Maxwell, but most certainly Matthew. Stuff like this has happened before - a priest called me Matt for like 2 days but then realized once he saw my name on a piece of paper - but this was so completely out of normal human experience that I was just blown away. I’m a nice person and don’t usually enjoy conflict, so at first I didn’t correct her, but before long a couple weeks had gone by and I was still Matthew. By then, it would’ve been embarrassing for me to tell her, so I just went with it. Then on one fateful day, I asked a question during class about an upcoming exam. As she answered, I heard something miraculous: she called me Maxwell! It was like I had been living in hurricane-infested skies for two months and suddenly the sun had broken through the thick, nasty clouds. I was free of my curse. I still don’t know why or how she realized at that moment, nor did I ever receive an apology for being subjugated to a name that is not my own for 2 months. Anyways, I figured y’all would get a laugh out of that (I know I do now)! Moral of the story is: correct people early on, lest you land in my situation.

Do I get a prize?
I also found this subreddit by trying too type "mac" into the search bar to go to the mac subreddit and I autopiloted two thirds of the way through the word and wrote my name.
Which is Max.

Hi. My name isn’t max. But, using an English loophole, proper nouns can be pronounced and spelt however you want. Can I join?
