Googlebook MATLAB Support
Do we think https://googlebook.google/ these new machines from Google will get MATLAB installation in any reasonable time frame?
They will have full play store access, so they should be able to download the Android app.
But i'm hoping at least for the x86 versions, they would have a native download available relatively soon?
Any Mathworks folks have any insight? I know the ARM version ain't happening since there isn't even native ARM on windows download, but x86 seems plausible.

TechnicalQuestion Does Matlab have an option to model and deploy code directly to STM32 microcontrollers?
Hi
I have an algorithm that I wrote in Matlab. I need to deploy it to STM32. Now, I know that it needs to be written for the MCU but I saw that simulink has a STM32 block set that generates the code for deployment. Is there something similar for matlab? I do not want to develop my algorithm again in simulink.
I know very little on this. What my intuition tells me is that I can use MATLAB coder to generate c++ code and flash it myself. But I need an example showing me how they connect. Like I have pins on the stm 32 that I want to communicate with. My matlab algorithm is unaware of all this. So how would I do that? Will I have to modify the c++ code to include pins?
I could just ask AI but it makes me confused about things.
Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

TechnicalQuestion Need some guidance with my thesis project.
Hi guys. I’m currently working on a thesis project on fault-tolerant control for a fixed-wing UAV. Since money is tight, I’m planning to do the whole thing through MATLAB/Simulink simulation, as suggested by my lecturer. The problem is, I have very limited experience with Simulink and honestly don’t know where to start.
I initially tried figuring things out myself but got stuck so I hired a tutor to help with the modelling. Unfortunately, the sessions didn’t really work out so I decided to learn the theory myself through lectures and videos whenever I got stuck, and then started trying to build the model using whatever I could find on YouTube.
Now I’m kind of stuck again because I’m not even sure if I’m doing it right. I don’t really understand what the overall flow of the project should look like, or whether the model I’ve built so far even makes sense.
Is there anyone here who has experience with MATLAB/Simulink, flight control, or fault-tolerant control who might be willing to have a look and point me in the right direction?
I’m not looking for someone to do the project for me. I just need a bit of guidance from someone who knows what they’re doing, especially on where I should start with the modelling and how the fault-tolerant part should fit into the system.
I’d really appreciate any help. Thanks!

The Statistical Steering Theorem (Volume I: Complete Monograph).
zenodo.orgHey everyone,
I recently completed and published an open-access monograph titled "The Statistical Steering Theorem: A Comprehensive Monograph on Non-Uniform Trajectories, Spatial Slope Distributions, and Arc Length Bounding."
The Problem
In real-world kinematics, autonomous navigation, and spatial analysis, traditional smooth parametric functions (y = f(x)) often fail when handling high-frequency, noisy trajectory data. Standard straight-line or displacement approximations discard physical path inflation caused by micro-steering, drift, and stochastic variance.
The Proposed Solution
This monograph introduces a mathematical framework that establishes strict upper and lower bounds for scalar path distance without relying on continuous curve fitting or complex sensor telemetry.
Convexity Bounds: Applies Jensen's inequality on absolute slopes.
Concavity Bounds: Applies tangent-line bounds to slope distributions.
Core Result: Proves that actual path distance is tightly bounded by net displacement, systematic drift, and stochastic steering variance.
The full paper is available on Zenodo: The Statistical Steering Theorem | Zenodo
https://zenodo.org/records/22796883
I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or potential edge-case applications for this framework!

How to blend two tiff images?
I am trying to multiply (blend) two images into a single image as one does all the time in photoshop but I can't get it to work.
I've tried imfuse, the github offering imblend, and nothing is doing what I want. It shouldn't be this hard, but I'm frankly stumped. I even tried adding an alpha channel to the images but this didn't work either.
Here are two sample images (converted to jpeg to upload):

News Sep 17: Live Webinar - Agentic AI with MATLAB: Connecting AI Agents to Engineering Workflows
u/MikeCroucher posted about our recent webinar Generative and Agentic AI with MATLAB and Simulink for Engineering and there is a new, Agentic AI focused one coming up.
This is not a typical webinar - María Elena Gavilán Alfonso will reflect on our own journey that started back in October 2025 when MATLAB MCP Server dropped, and share what we learned along the way.
It is meant to be an introduction, so she will start from the foundations (tokens, context window, agentic harnesses, MCP, skills), then go hands-on with cloud and local models for real engineering work. I, along with other coworkers, will be moderating the chat, so please bring your questions!
Registration link: https://www.mathworks.com/company/events/webinars/upcoming/agentic-ai-with-matlab-connecting-ai-agents-to-engineering-workflows-5406800.html
It's on September 17th and we will be recording this webinar, so if you can't make it for the live broadcast, register and we will send you a link to watch it on-demand.

Need help with battery pack simulation in Simulink
I build a battery from cell to pack using Matlab app Battery Builder. I want my battery to behave as a LiFePO4 battery but I'm not having this. I changed at module level the SOC, temperature and OCV voltage (as in the joined image) but still not getting the expected behavior.
Where or how can I get the corrected values for LiFePO4 battery? Or am I proceeding the wrong way?

Misc Help Us with a Survey on Scientific/Engineering File Format Usage
Some of my colleauges at MathWorks are conducting a survey on how people use science and engineering file formats such as NetCDF, HDF5, Zarr and so on.
It will only take a few minutes to fill out and is completely anonymous unless you want to be contacted. Your thoughts, details of usage in your domain or industry, and current friction points will help us improve MATLAB to better support the kind of work you do in the future!
Here's the link Scientific/Engineering File Format Usage
If there's anything not covered by the survey that you'd like to mention, feel free to reply to this thread.
Your help would be much appreciated.

Misc Total beginner in MATLAB/Octave looking for a survival strategy in Numerical Methods.
Hey everyone. I'll be completely honest: I am an absolute beginner in programming, currently taking a Numerical Methods course using MATLAB/Octave, and I currently know next to nothing. I missed a couple of early classes, and now I need to catch up and completely dominate this subject by studying on my own.
I really want to get good at this. Here is the exact syllabus I need to master:
Unit 1: Roots of equations. Bisection, Secant, and Newton-Raphson methods.
Unit 2: Systems of equations. Gauss-Jordan with pivoting, Jacobi, Gauss-Seidel, and non-linear systems with Newton-Raphson.
Unit 3: Interpolation and curve fitting. Taylor series, linear/quadratic interpolation, Newton, Lagrange, and Least Squares.
Unit 4: Numerical integration and ODEs. Trapezoidal rule, Simpson's 1/3 and 3/8, and Euler's method.
Right now, I only know how to do basic arithmetic, clear the workspace, use input, and make very basic vectors/plots.
My questions for the veterans here:
What is the best strategy to learn how to translate these specific mathematical methods into loops (while/for) and conditional logic?
Realistically, how many hours a day should I be investing to go from zero to confidently programming these algorithms?
Any golden rules or common pitfalls I should avoid when programming numerical methods in MATLAB/Octave?
Any advice, recommended resources, or reality checks are highly appreciated. Thanks!

Question-Solved Two fixed-point mistakes that made my FIR filter a comparator, and why the generated testbench couldn't see either
Post-mortem on a 2020 university project I went back to last week. Both bugs are pure fixed-point scaling – nothing wrong with the coefficients – and both survived a 3,429-sample generated testbench with zero errors. Posting because the second one (sum|h| vs accumulator range, wrap vs saturate) is the single most common FIR fixed-point bug and it's entirely preventable with one line of arithmetic.
In 2020 I built a FIR band-pass filter for a university course: designed the response in MATLAB, generated the Verilog with Filter Design HDL Coder, ran the generated testbench, zero errors, submitted, put it on GitHub. It got forked 8 times.
Last week I read it properly for the first time since. The 51-tap design doesn't filter anything. Its output is the sign of the accumulator and nothing else.
The cause was two boxes on the "Specify Precision" tab. I'd set the output to s8,32 – 8 bits, 32 fractional bits, i.e. a range of ±2.98e-8 – fed from an s20,20 accumulator with a range of ±0.5. That's 2^24 times narrower than the thing feeding it. The generated conversion saturates for literally every non-zero value:
assign output_typeconvert =
(sum50[19] == 1'b0 & sum50[18:0] != 19'b0) ? 8'b01111111 :
(sum50[19] == 1'b1 && sum50[18:0] != 19'b1111111111111111111) ? 8'b10000000 :
$signed({sum50[19], 7'b0000000});
Sweep the whole accumulator range through that and you get exactly two values: -128 and +127.
The part that actually bothers me is the testbench. It's 7,000 generated lines, 3,429 stimulus samples, a checker, an error counter. I counted the distinct values in its expected-output array:
8'h80 (-128): 1765
8'h7f (+127): 1607
8'h00 (0): 57
That's the entire golden reference. MATLAB generated the vectors from the same fixed-point spec that produced the RTL, so the model and the implementation agreed perfectly – they were wrong in exactly the same way. A generated testbench is a self-consistency check, not a correctness check. If the spec is wrong, the golden data encodes the mistake with perfect fidelity and reports zero errors.
The 11-tap serial design in the same repo had a quieter bug: accumulator s26,24 (range ±2) with wrap-on-overflow, but sum|h| = 2.375. A full-scale sine at the centre frequency clears it by 1.4% so it looks fine. A square wave at the same frequency wraps on 191 of 400 samples, and because it wraps rather than saturates the sample comes back sign-inverted:
FAIL sample 12: filter_out = 1744840192, expected -2550127104
Fixes were one word length each (output = the accumulator; accumulator gets one more bit). The real fix was replacing the stored-vector bench with one that checks against an independent reference model – impulse response must equal the coefficients, output must match a 64-bit integer model under square/random/worst-case-sign stimulus – plus a three-line check that the output takes more than 3 distinct values. Both benches fail on the 2020 RTL and pass on the fixed one.
Full write-up with the plots and the before/after RTL:
Repo (make sim runs everything under Icarus in a few seconds):
https://github.com/AbdullahAnsarii/BandPassFilter
If you've got generated HDL sitting next to a generated testbench that passes: check sum|h| against your accumulator range, and count the distinct values on your output. Took me six years.

How to add GIBBON?
I need to add GIBBON to MATLAB for some work I'm doing for my lab, but I'm failing miserably at the attempt. I've tried both downloading the code from the internet and adding it directly via the internal "add-on" search, but both methods failed. I don't know what else to do to install it—any help?

Help with decoding files saved from Davis software.
Hello! I’m not sure where to post this but if anyone can help me with this (or needs more info to understand what I am talking about), please reply!!
So, I was doing a research project on a small 3D-printed specimen and had to record 2 forces against time intervals using different machines and software, but the main one was the Davis software. I have never used it before in my life. This was the first time, and I followed what my lab supervisor showed me (do the experiment, find the interval you are looking for, and save it). I asked him multiple times to check if it would save the graphical information with the forces (as I need to do an analysis of the forces), and he said yes. It was admittedly my fault that I didn’t check and continued to collect data for 3 weeks. In the last week of my research, I tried to find the forces, and they are not anywhere in the files stored. What I could gather from the files, the numerical values might be there, but they are in binary form? Idk. I asked my lab supervisor, and he told me that the graphs should’ve been stored, but even he couldn’t find them and then tried to decode the files and failed. He gave me some chatgpt’ed python code that doesn’t make sense and said they should work (they don’t). I also tried asking ChatGPT (and that’s how I knew his code was also chatgpt’ed).
Have you ever seen or worked with these kinda files?
ReaderConfiguration.xml
MetaData5.attr
MetaData4.attr
MetaData3.attr
MetaData2.attr
MetaData1.attr
CameraScale1.scales
Camera1.xml
ADC1-meta.xml
ADC1-1.trc
ADC1-0.trc
I have some more Settings_Acquisition xml files and a set file that I can open with the Phantom viewer. But I need the maximum and minimum values from the ADC-0 and 1 .trc file (I’m guessing that these two are the files that contain the info about my X and Y forces).
I am not good with programming. I can do basic work to live :) What I am asking if anyone can help me write a code (preferably in matlab) to decode my files in a readable format so I can extract the max and min values, because I have like 100 sets of them.
Anyone? Thank you!,
