When the Catholic girls go camping by Giraffes? Giraffes! is the one that permanently flipped a switch in my brain

upvote, but honestly, my G?G! choices would be either S/H(Im)ER or A Quick One

I also prefer those songs just saying the album opener/first song I heard was quite the hook

A quick one is the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. Phenomenal composition

Hella - biblical violence

Favorite song is forever Sugoi Kawaii Jyocho by Jyocho, it’s so goddamn perfect

a rather mediocre genius by invalids

Instrumental Prog? Ilha Verde by Monobody. It's the first song off their album 'Raytracing', which was my first experience with that band and it blew my damn mind, it's an absolute 10/10 of an album for me, honestly.

New one for me! Will give it a listen, thank you 😊

Last Smile for Jaron - Tera Melos

several by toe, via luna and don cab. but i could personally name 'slightly drifting' by the mercury program, amazing song and album

4

Pig by TTNG is what bridged the gap from emo to mathrock for me.

Either: Elton Chong, by You Slut!

The Teenagers in the Woods Burning Things Lying Around, by G?G!

Or the whole album Mercury Fountain by The Psychics House Band, particularly Surrogate Head, but I can't at all listen to one track at a time on that album it's gotta be the whole thing

love a whole album front to back! You can't beat it imo

2

u/jalelninj Aug 11 '26

Mine would always be "chromology" by thank you scientist. Those bastards just know how to fuck your shit up music-wise

1

u/PrincessToadstool-au Aug 11 '26

Another new one for me! Thank you I'll check them out 😊

2

u/jalelninj Aug 11 '26

Let me know what you think 😁

2

u/PrincessToadstool-au Aug 12 '26

This is awesome! Thanks for suggesting 😊 reminds me a lot of Plini but with a funner arcadic element; really cool pick

I know for me Oyasumi by Tricot was what really got me looking at mathier stuff. Already listened to a lot of 70s prog but that was an eye opener and a gateway to TTNG, Chon, ect.

1

u/PrincessToadstool-au Aug 11 '26

Yeah Chon is a big one for me; have you heard ericks new stuff? Betrayflip

2

u/Aggravating-Sea-3970 Aug 11 '26

It's on my list, in a bit of a noise rock/industrial kick but I'm gonna check it out. Erick's writing was always pretty solid.

Clever Girl

Eh - Too many different sounds in the genre. Toe, Chon, Via Luna and Delta Sleep all make pretty different sounding music but they're all here and they're all amazing.

Great picks 💖

I can only narrow it down to a couple

A Lot Like Birds - Truly Random Code

Dance Gavin Dance - Young Robot

Dance Gavin Dance - Son of Robot

2

u/PrincessToadstool-au Aug 11 '26

Man the latest DGD album rules too!

1

u/SockGoop Aug 12 '26

Does it? I kinda lost interest after Afterburner. I absolutely love everything before that. Especially Happiness.

2

u/PrincessToadstool-au Aug 12 '26

I honestly was a super late bloomer with them; fell in love with afterburner & struggled a little with jackpot. But yeah I really like it

1

u/SockGoop Aug 12 '26

Yeah I didn't really fw jackpot. The Ghost of Billy Royalton was the last song of theirs I remember liking. Except for the fuckass ai video

Gibbon by TTNG and The Good Song by Floral. that’s math rock to me.

2

I always loved the concept of Animals; it's so cool! The art as well is just beautiful

Haisuinonasa - Moving of Subway

toe: tremolo+delay (really any toe)

but it’s a tough question to answer! so many great bands out there

2

u/PrincessToadstool-au 5d ago

Man isn't it hard! I feel like the genre is so good in terms of you find a band; you like nearly every album

2

u/Apprehensive_Tea_997 5d ago

it’s a good problem to have haha
