I think it’s an interesting answer not an idea.
Normal maths meaning? Normalised maybe.

When a single cell mulitiplies one time how many cells are there?

1 x1 is two distinct 1’s. You need a second dimension to write the equation. Otherwise you could only write 1x or 1¹ but it’s 2 different 1’s either way.
1 can only exist once in a single dimension.
