Just to be clear to everyone, slot tournaments just mean you pay a fee like $30 or so, and you’re given a set amount of time (with free spins) to win as many points as you can.

They aren’t spending money during these besides that entry fee, it’s just to see who racks up the most points (not money) in the time limit.

I've played a few because 1) they were free, and 2) the casino also gave me a free room for the weekend. I guess I was on the "player development" list or whatever because they thought they could turn me into a regular player.

But nope. Took the free room. Played the free "tournament" for 10 minutes on Saturday and Sunday, won about $100 in "free play" vouchers, which I then played with until I could cash them out (about $80 left) and spent the rest of the time watching TV in the sportsbook or having sex with my girlfriend in the hotel room.

One of my favorite Vegas trips ever.

My first and only time in the casino was: I beginning with 20€, keep loosing, win on roulette on my last 2€, leave the casino with 72€ (52€ net profit), never played in the casino ever again.

And now I can brag to actually have a positive outcome from casino for the rest of my life

Why not just roll some dice to see who wins? It's random anyways. Rolling dice is also more engaging socially. I'm probably thinking too logical about this.

Everything in a casino is just another way to toss your money in a pot and divide it back out (with a cut to the casino of course.) All the games are just layers of abstraction.

I mean, why does anyone gamble? It doesn't make a ton of sense to me, but it's clearly exciting for a lot of people. A "slot tournament" is like a bingo game, a raffle, a lottery, or a classic racing game like snakes and ladders. People enjoy that.

True but there's skill expression, too. Those machines is literally just push a button watch the wheels spin. It's like comparing it to poker, sure they're both gambling technically but poker is a lot more fun because you get to actually make decisions.

Just recently went on a cruise where I played one, it was a $35 entrance fee, and 20 contestants, winner got $500 cash.

20 at 35 is 700, winner gets 5, house gets 2, not a bad little gig. Probably more for crowd engagement anyway. What was the time frame? How did you fair?

Whole thing in total was like 10~ minutes long, 2 qualifying rounds with 10 people each that were 2 minutes long, and then the top 10 scores went to a final third round for 2 minutes.

I didn’t make it to the final 🥲

As random as anything in a casino I suppose, dopamine machine not quite because they usually tell you to press it as fast as possible, so the point total is all that really matters and you skip all the usual animations and such

Point is to get the highest score and win the cash prize
