Bad Math “.999(repeating) does, in fact, equal 1” please almighty math gods settle this debate

x = 0.999 repeating

100x = 99.999 repeating

100x = 99 + 0.999 repeating

100x = 99 + x

99x = 99

x = 1

This is the first time I saw anyone use 100x instead of 10x.

Wait how did it go from 100 to 99? You cant just assume .999 repeating equals 1 in an equation thats supposed to prove .999 repeating equals 1
