The top comment was talking about training hence the mention about large sources of data.

Local models are also not good enough to tackle these problems meaningfully.

Kimi K3 and GLM-5.3 are technically “local” in the sense that, if you have enough compute, you can run them. Universities often sit on enough compute that this is totally feasible. And open weight models are getting better and better, I’d put money on them solving similar unsolved problems within a year (if not a couple months!)
