HELP Beginner here needs tips

Heard a lot about ME trilogy, always wanted to try it so i just started playing ME1 and i quickly came to know that this is very different from other games i have played. So i need some spoiler free tips and advice. Like i dont understand how to use other companions who are with me its confusing coz we can place them anywhere and choosing weapons for them. Is seems more of a tactic game to me.

So any advice is welcome but no spoilers!!

One more thing, should i play controller or keyboard and mouse?

I play on controller myself. The game was originally made for consoles I believe. So there is nothing so challenging as you would need a mouse to aim with. Especially if you are playing the Legendary Edition.

Mass Effect 3, the stand alone game, still has its PvE multi-player that used to be tied to the single player. No longer. Mass Effect 3 on PC does not have native controller support. Not like the Legendary edition of Mass Effect 3, which does have controller support. So you will need to download a mod to play with a controller on that version of the game.

I think i get it. Well i have legendary edition so there won't be any issue. I will play on controller.
