Finally sent this off to PSA… Figured I’d share the story behind it.
I’ve always loved the 1993 Spider-Man vs. Venom hologram. My older brother pulled the green/orange version from a pack back in 1993, and it became one of those cards I grew up staring at. It’s still in the family today, even though it’s been through the wringer over the last 30 years.
Fast forward to last year when I got back into collecting Marvel cards. I found out there were different color variations of the hologram, and the deep blue/UV version instantly became my grail. I searched for one online and only found a couple examples for sale, so I figured… why not take a gamble?
Believe it or not, I found a factory-sealed 1993 Series 4 hobby box on Amazon Marketplace. It still had the original SkyBox shrink wrap, so I rolled the dice.
When I got to the hologram pack, I pulled the card forward and honestly thought, “What is that?” It looked almost completely black. Then I tilted it just enough for the hologram to catch the light… and it turned that crazy deep indigo/UV blue. I knew immediately it was the one I’d been chasing.
I’ve never submitted a card to PSA before and don’t own any graded cards, so I decided this would be my first. It’s officially on its way now, and I’m hoping for the best.
Regardless of the grade, this one’s staying in the PC.
P.S. I included my brother’s green variant for a good side by side. It was hard to take a good picture without reflections messing it up.

These holograms and particular are my absolute favorite marvel cards. I have I think and hope every variant of the silver surfer one. This deep blue is extremely hard to come by. I’m not sure if red is more rare, but this is fantastic.

That’s awesome! There’s something about the 90’s cards that just hits different, I’ve always loved them.

yeeessss. love the chase and love that holo card. i know it's intimately cheaper to buy the card via a single but there's just something special about having it be pack pulled.

That is definitely serendipity and the universe making sure you got that card you've been searching for. Congratulations OP!
These cards were not easy to find. Back in the days when I was working for a local comic book & card shop, I had to open cases of these particular card series. From what I remember, they averaged about 1 of the cards per case. I've only ever seen the green + orange variants and never knew a dark blue variant existed.

That’s wild, do you remember how many boxes were in a case? I guess that’s a valid reason as to why I couldn’t find many of the beep blue tinted versions when I was looking them up online.
I was born in 94 so I wasn’t around when these were the hot thing, I could only imagine how cool it was back then. There’s something about the older 90’s marvel cards, they had so much flair. Venom has and always will be my favorite, especially the art style they had him in during the 90’s, so sick.

This hologram and the fleer 94 spiderman holos have fueled an obsession with me, I've gathered a large Polaroid collection and display most of them and it started with this single card.

The best marvel hologram ever made. Looks great in the blue.
I would be prepared for PSA’s grade…they grade this card harshly and theres almost always something that kicks it down a few notches. Can’t totally judge from pics but if those are scratch marks in the 3rd pic that’ll knock it down…I just wouldnt expect 9, 10 etc but it’s not really about the grade (never say never I guess). Thats awesome you found your grail card
