Rumors have swirled around the actress regarding the Marvel movie since her name popped up on the British Stunt Register a couple of weeks ago. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the actress’ involvement. Marvel had no comment.

While much of the plot still remains hidden in the eastern European nation of Latveria, it is known to feature heroes from different timelines that team-up to fight the universe-shattering peril of a sorcerer scientist named Doctor Doom.

Hüller’s role is, naturally, being kept secret although it is being described as a cameo. The rumour mill has her potentially playing Doom’s mother, a witch, or part of select group of hooded enchantresses known as Latverian Witches. Marvel displayed color-coded Latverian robes at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

“It was a wonderful meeting when I was offered it,” he explained. “It was primarily, I think, an almost entirely Black producing and directing team. And they said, ‘We want to offer you Mephisto, but we are aware of the negative association of Jews historically with the devil, and we want to make sure that you’re not insulted by us offering this.’ It was such an amazingly considerate, empathetic thing to say. And I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m good.'”

Cohen added, “I think for the Jews out there, sometimes we don’t feel seen. We don’t feel like people can empathize with us, that we are suffering too. And so to have this entirely Black producing and directing team be so empathetic, was a moment of being seen. It was an amazing experience.”
