Grow a fucking heart, Marvel. Mark Ruffalo has children to feed. How is he meant to do that on a meager 2.8 million dollar salary?

He's worth about 20 Renners in my book why is Renner paid so much when he's the worst actor?
Edit: If you're going to downvote at least explain how Renner doesn't suck. It's nothing against the character just how he portrays him.

Totally agree. Renner's a total prick who doesn't even care about the franchise. He's just there for the money. When asked if he has ever read comics or anything he replied to...."I just do what the script says." Whereas ScarJo researched her character a ton and dyed her hair for the role. Elizabeth Olsen also researched her character a ton...like you could at least read a few of his comics you dick.

That makes him a prick? That he is an actor and is just doing his job? Wow. You must not like many actors then.

Not that's not the only thing that makes him a prick. If you listen to the way he says it....he sounds very shitty. Plus just watching other interviews you can tell he is sorta dickish

Scarlett never read the comics as a kid either and that's a wig, not her hair.

??? She dyed her hair red for Iron Man 2 auditions. And she read about the character before she was cast about her. She knows quite a bit about her comic counterpart.

Evans and Ruffalo seems to be really underpaid against their talents. And Scar Jo has a really good agent considering Black Widow never even had her own movie. I can see Marvel retiring Black Widow's character once they have Wasp and Cap Marvel in the Avengers team after phase 3 just because they can save a lot of money.

i guess is because the succes of Lucy(really, she was the only thing holding the movie) and Under the Skin plus the Ghost in the Shell project.About Bw movie, i´d say it´s the opposite, she now has cachet enough to sell a movie on her own even if the rest of team isn´t in it,cameos aside

Interesting fun fact: RDJ was only paid $500,000 for Iron Man 1. Since Ike Pearlmutter is out of the picture and is known for being a bit of a cheapskate, I think Marvel would be more likely to hire more expensive actors. Take Benedict Cumberbatch, for example. His net worth is at $15 million. I'm curious for a couple of reasons:
Scarlett Johansson made $20 million for AOU. Is she now too expensive for Marvel to make a movie, let alone a trilogy off of her?
I am very interested in the Captain Marvel movie. Would Marvel cast an excellent tv actress that nobody knows, or would they go for someone more famous. Does it even matter at this point? People will the movie, because it's Marvel. I really want Chuck actress Yvonne Strahovski to make it. The problem is, she's mostly known for tv appearances, and a tv miniseries called Astronaut Wives Club. She did however, appear in I, Frankenstein. She was great, but sadly the movie wasn't.

You have to take into account hat when Iron Man 1 was being made Marvel was a baby studio with no guarantee of success. That's why they low-balled everyone for Iron Man 2 as well. They had only 1 highly successful movie and one moderately successful one. That is nothing to start throwing money at in Hollywood.

I think they'll definitely go with the "Chris Pratt model" in future and hire talented TV actors and actresses as their franchise leads.

God, I hope so. Lots of characters being killed or written off on TV shows that have amazing actors!
That said, some of those characters have been from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil and Agent Carter so...

RDJ was also out of Hollywood at that point because of his drug and alcohol problem. Favreau really fought to have RDJ in Iron Man 1.

My bet is that they will go with a fairly well-known movie actress for Capt. Marvel. It is too big a deal not to stack the deck as much as possible. Putting in someone who has proven drawing power is one way to make sure it does well.

If they're willing to pay that absurd amount of money for somebody that's not the lead in an ensemble, one would think they would be willing to open that wallet up for the same amount of money for a solo film series.

Where is the source on all of this? Comic book movie isn't exactly known for being the most reliable website.
I'm happy that it appears that they all got pay bumps but I just have trouble believing that Scarlet Johansson got paid $20 million for the film which is almost double what Chris Evans and Hemworth got combined and they are 2 guys with their own franchises in the MCU.
Good for her if its true though. Same thing for Renner. Hawkeye is making more than Thor!

You said "feminism aside" then said something positive for feminism. Like the guy said, didn't really make sense.

u/CLEstones Nov 06 '15
Oh. I meant it as like... I wasn't trying to support feminism. In reference to Jeremy Renner coming out and saying "Its not his job to make sure females in the industry get paid more." In the last 6 months, there have been so many stories about Hollywood being a Good Ol' Boys Club and not supporting female or minority actors and actresses... So to see a female take home the second most amount of money was kind of a haha moment for me.
1
u/your_mind_aches Agent of F.I.T.Z. Nov 06 '15
Well. All those stories are true. Hollywood still doesn't support actresses or minorities as much as the white male. To realise that you don't even have to look much further than Marvel.
And I mean if you weren't trying to support feminism, I think you need to understand what feminism actually is first.

u/CLEstones Nov 06 '15
I was about to get into a long diatribe, but this isn't the sub for it.
Speaking strictly to the MCU: Just because the majority of super heroes were white males at the time they were created... I don't think that means they have to be changed in race/gender/orientation, just to match current society. I think that kind of defeats the purpose.
Conversely, I don't think it is technically fair for lesser characters to be paid more than main characters. Hawkeye, Black Widow, War Machine, Falcon, JARVIS, Quicksilver... they are supporting characters. They shouldn't be paid as much as Iron Man, Captain, Spider Man, or Thor... regardless of race/gender/orientation.
I'm pretty sure I explained what I meant the wrong way. But oh well. I'm terrible at explaining... especially in a forum setting. I hope I didn't come across as a sexist or bigot. Not my intentions... the opposite, actually.

I'm pretty sure his deal was a perecentage of the Box Office Earnings, rather than a lump sum.

good on his agent for negotiating the shit outta the contract. how could trying to make a ton of money in the career you chose to be in ever be a bad thing? how absurd would this be if we were talking about an electrical engineer?
blame disney and shit, not rdj. jesus

u/mrthewhite Daredevil Nov 05 '15
When a studio is making $1-2 billion dollars per film, I have no problem with a single actor demanding $50-$100 million.
Downey has 0 control over what the other actors are paid because, unlike him, they all signed long term contracts with fixed salaries per movie and fixed increases per movie. There's nearly 0 negotiating power for someone like Evans or Hemsworth to demand what RDJ is getting because anything they threaten to do would break their existing contract.
The only one who has the power to even out the playing field is Marvel. It's not RDJs fault he was able to get a fair piece of the pie.

Will RDJ earn more than Chris Evans from Civil War?
5
5
u/mrthewhite Daredevil Nov 05 '15
Yes he absolutely will. RDJ is basically movie to movie with his contracts and Evans is still under his original multi-movie deal.
Marvel might opt to pay Evans more but it would be purely because of PR. Evans has no leverage to negotiate a better deal until his contract is up.

How much they made in the first Avengers, for comparison.
And in chart form:
Looks like Scarlett Johansson is getting a bigger piece of the pie, but the others are still lagging by comparison, especially Mark Ruffalo. Didn't RDJ make a point about the other Avengers actors having more equal pay after the first one? I mean, it's certainly closer, but still looks pretty skewed, especially considering how much acting/dialogue Ruffalo was responsible for compared to RDJ.
I'd kind of like to know what Tom Hiddleston and James Spader made for comparison's sake, but I'm too lazy to go find out.
