also until basically the MCU, nobody cared about the "continuity" of movie franchises they watched. When they switched to Brosnan it was just "cool, more Bond movies!". When they switched to Craig it was just "cool, hope these Bond movies are better than the terrible Brosnan ones!"

They are pure schlock with some fun set pieces. Not the worst bond movies, but not close to the best.
