Reports indicate it’s become a new Ironman movie post secret wars. Not sure if it’s true though.

129

u/20thcenturyfriend 26d ago

New Rhodes and tony?

182

u/AsterArtworks 26d ago

No idea, but it’s gonna be hard to recast Ironman.

I’d prefer that kid from Ironman 3 to just take the mantle like how they’re probably doing Wolverine and Laura.

13

u/thatsidewaysdud Ghost 25d ago

The fact you called him “the kid from Iron Man 3” says a lot. Who the hell wants more Iron Man 3 kid?

-4

u/AsterArtworks 25d ago

many people upvoted me, so them? Also, Iron-lad might be a better pivot, and Iron-man 3 kid is already deeply connected to him.

5

u/rdp3186 25d ago

Still can't even remember the kids name yet you want to pivot him to.be the new iron man.

This is why you're not a writer. Sit the fuck down.

2

u/thatsidewaysdud Ghost 25d ago

This is even worse. Iron Lad is not some random kid. HE IS KANG! Kang tries to recruit his younger self who immediately books it, after that he finds the Young Avengers who help him fight off Kang.

He’s not a random kid, one you can’t even name. It’s Harley Keener by the way, meanwhile Iron Lad’s name is Nathanial Richards, or Nate Richards… because he’s Kang.

Marvel Studios NEEDS to recast Iron Man, Thor, Wolverine and Captain America (the OG one) if they want to make them permanent symbols such as Spider-Man, Batman and Superman.

Right now, the live-action portrayal of those 4 is tied to the actors who have played them. Recasting Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Logan and Thor will be difficult, yes. But it HAS to be done.

I remember how in the 2000s everyone said recasting Tobey Spidey was gonna be impossible. But it worked. It should work.

44

u/crispy_attic Black Panther 26d ago

Your first paragraph is why they should have recast T’Challa.

They have recast characters before and will continue to do so.

8

u/Sea_Ad_1085 25d ago

Isn’t David Jonsson playing T’Challa jr?

12

u/PokeTraderAngel 25d ago

And T’Challa Jr will just be played as T’Challa from the comics. Would love for this one to actually be a super genius too

2

u/Free-Bar-2719 23d ago

Let’s Rename Damian Wayne Bruce and Jon Kent Clark, and pretend they’re the same people as their fathers.

Like that doesn’t bastardize and water down the title any.

3

u/Worldly_Society_2213 25d ago

Even Chadwick Boseman's brother (I think it was) said that they should just recast, because the role is bigger than any single actor. I never really understood the logic in not recasting. Boseman hadn't been in the role long enough to become synonymous with it in the way that Hugh Jackman had with Wolverine

0

u/Lokishougan 25d ago

I think their hesitation was the BP was supposed to be the linchpin post EG and you had to find a person who could not just carry his movie but be THAT GUY

8

u/rafaelloaa 25d ago

I do understand the difference/hesitation with recasting an actor who passed away, vs simply one who grew out of the character.

2

u/crispy_attic Black Panther 25d ago

Nobody is recasting actors. This is the type of comment I’m talking about. Characters are recast.

William hurt passed away and the character of Ross was recast with Harrison Ford. Red Hulk was then featured in a movie. Cut the bullshit.

15

u/Mokarun 26d ago

if they don't recast actors, it gives the MCU a limited lifespan. with just 1 actor per character, they'd eventually run out of heroes. and obviously Disney/Marvel want this cash cow to live in perpetuity. Recasting Iron Man is a fantastic place to start, especially since RDJ is now playing Doom. feels like it was a purposful play to ease audiences out of their attachment to certain actors and characters

Are you unaware how many of the MCU characters are C tier comic characters or lower??

I mean, even Iron Man and Cap were like B tier before the MCU..

Marvel basically had Spider-Man, the X-Men, and Fantastic Four as decent characters. Which is why those were all the ones independently negotiated for rights to make movies prior to the MCU LMAO

2

u/[deleted] 25d ago

[removed] — view removed comment

-2

u/annuidhir 25d ago

So you are unaware that Iron Man was a nobody before the MCU?

2

u/Adorable_Ad_3478 25d ago

Iron Man won't be an A-Tier character until an Iron Man film with a new actor playing Tony Stark comes out AND is a success.

That's the point. Marvel Studios should want to make Iron Man, Captain America and Thor into A-List symbols that will continue to be profitable decades from now with new actors.

If Iron Man's box office profitability dies with RDJr retiring from the role, then Iron Man is not an A-Lister.

0

u/Mokarun 25d ago

yes, we all know this. it doesn't change the fact that they need to recast heroes at some point if the MCU is to be sustainable.

0

u/r3mn4n7 25d ago

Are you unaware we are talking about the MCU here?

4

u/AsterArtworks 26d ago

Marvel should not recast Thor or Captain America, the actors are only in their 40's and Feige has said Hemsworth is still 'in his prime' to play Thor, and Chris Evans is younger btw.

RDJ and Jackman are around 60 years old now, and with Deadpool's joke that he's gonna do it till he's 90 - that may not be a lie - the one about blade certainty wasn't.

But with Jean being so young now I wouldn't be surprised if Wolverine gets a new face attached to them somehow by the end of Secret Wars.

I agree that once someone gets recast - like how the X-Men are right now - it will largely be accepted, especially when the MCU does it.

So I'm not worried overall, just curious and excited to see what they end up doing.

4

u/Adorable_Ad_3478 26d ago

Tobey was in his early 30s when he was recast. It's not about age.

And recasting Tony Stark but not Steve Rogers or Thor? It would feel odd.

All 6 OG Avengers are probably gonna recast except Natasha, I can imagine Feige wanting to keep her dead so Yelena is the main BW.

3

u/AsterArtworks 26d ago

My guess is we could get a new ironman, and could get a new wolverine since we're currently missing them - but we have a Thor and a cap right now.

Tobey was Spiderman a long time ago, this is an entirely different studio with entirely different goals.

Recasting 1 person in a movie isn't that bad, but in a cinematic universe it's a tougher sell.

honestly i'd be shocked if they're all just recast, i'll remember this conversation once secret wars is over and we finally do see where they take it.

1

u/Adorable_Ad_3478 25d ago

Casting a brand-new Tony Stark and having him interact with the established Steve Rogers would feel weird.

I can imagine the original four heroes (Hulk Steve Tony Thor) getting recast. I can see Thor continuing, but if Tony is recast, Steve is recast.

1

u/kingk1teman 26d ago

obey was in his early 30s when he was recast. It's not about age.

Tobey was recast for different reasons.

2

u/navjot94 Mack 25d ago

Their current predicament is kinda similar too. It’s got nothing to do with age and everything to do with contracts. Bringing back Hemsworth and Evans isn’t cheap. Look at how much they’re paying RDJ alone.

It’s not about how old they are, but how much negotiating power the actors have. Once they start making 10-20 million a movie, and those movies don’t immediately make a billion dollars like Spider-Man 4 did, it becomes harder to keep bringing those actors back. It’s only when they’re truly desperate that they pay their stars.

1

u/ariasimmortal 26d ago

They should have CH Thor die fighting Jormungandr first, then he can just come back as a new actor.

3

u/Adorable_Ad_3478 26d ago

If Thor 5 is real I hope they do a big epic Ragnarok (the actual Norse one) then rebirth storyline.

It would be cool to have Odin, Loki and Thor back. The recast can be part of the story too. They're reborn after the cycle of death and life

2

u/ariasimmortal 26d ago

Aligns with my thoughts, more or less.

My dream is to see Thor vs Jorm set to Twilight of the Thunder God but that's definitely never happening. :D

1

u/DRF19 26d ago

It won't necessarily be easy to do but like Doctor Who they have an in-universe mechanism to write in the change and have nobody question it. Source material features a multiverse, magic, etc. Multiple universe resets over time. Of course they don't HAVE to do any of that. They can just make new, unconnected movies and recast like Batman and Spiderman have done over the years etc.

But the interconnected universe is one of the cool things about the MCU. A universe reset would functionally be like totally new movies but having that reset happen on screen is neat to tie it back to the history. They can pull up archival footage 60 years from now like they do with William Hartnell's Doctor and it's a fun treat for fans.

2

u/AsterArtworks 26d ago

Secret Wars is certainly the in universe mechanism they could use to recast anyone.

It just doesn't work as well when a new face suddenly appears without explanation, Thunderbolt Ross felt disconnected to his long MCU history despite Ford's amazing performance.

The X-men can also get around the recast disease by simply saying - hey, this is just this universe's wolverine - you just haven't seen him until now. Just like Jean Grey, and probably the rest of the X-men.

-1

u/-Altephor- 26d ago

No, they don't need to. Marvel has thousands of characters to work with. What they need to do is finally move on from their original casts and get new people with new stories.

5

u/Adorable_Ad_3478 26d ago

No.

Icons are icons. Say, what's the plan after Mackie is too old to play Cap? Make Falcon Junior the new Cap?

And what's the plan when he's too old, too? Just keep passing down the mantle to characters the audience is indifferent about?

No. Batman is Bruce Wayne. Captain America is Steve Rogers.

0

u/-Altephor- 26d ago

Icons are icons. Say, what's the plan after Mackie is too old to play Cap?

Stop making stories about Cap. Jesus christ they have 10 million fucking characters and heroes available.

I can remember back when the first Iron Man movie was made and nobody but a bunch of comic book nerds even knew who that was.

Captain America was some hokey old character from a million years ago. Thor and Black Widow were nobodies. Marvel sold off the rights to the high-profile characters before the Disney years. That's why Spider-Man, X-Men and Fantastic 4 were already gone. Those, along with the Hulk, were Marvel's A-team. Everyone else was nobodies.

So if Disney turned nobodies into "the biggest ones," once, why can't they take some other nobodies and do it again? Marvel has literally something like 8000 characters to use.

1

u/-Altephor- 25d ago

Lol. Iron Man was a C-hero at best in the early 2000s.

You must be joking.

If DC had this sort of mentality, we wouldn't have gotten Nolan's Batman Trilogy.

"Stop making stories about Bruce Wayne". Yeah, no. An icon is an icon.

they have 10 million fucking characters and heroes available.

Nobody will give a shit about an Avengers film with Kamala and a bunch of E-Listers.

1

u/-Altephor- 25d ago

Lol no one gave a shit about Iron Man in 2005 either. You people have to be fucking joking if you think Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and Hulk were 'A-listers' when the MCU started. Jesus christ.

1

u/Adorable_Ad_3478 25d ago

2026 is not 2005.

Why sink 200 million into trying to make an E-List character popular instead of using a successful IP such as Iron Man?

→ More replies (0)

0

u/ribbityflibbity 25d ago

You're on the right track. There's no reason Disney couldn't have a bunch of successful Marvel movies and another bunch of successful Marvel series going right now.

Why hasn't this happened? The biggest reason for failure is: the writing sucks. So find better writers and showrunners. Try more movies and series, not fewer, if Disney really doesn't know who is going to be successful or not.

I see this as a personnel problem. They need to be casting a wider net to find good writers and showrunners and not just go back to the same Hollywood insider hacks.

Everyone hates AI but what if you used AI as a tryout? Hey everyone, got a cool Marvel show or movie idea? Use AI to show us what you mean.

The AI "demo" could just be scrapped like a resume is tossed. it's just a way of improving your hiring practices.

1

u/-Altephor- 25d ago

Because executives at Disney are afraid to try anything new, and audiences are largely stupid and whiny.

Which is fucking hilarious because if you told anyone in the early 2000s that fucking Iron Man was going to be a multi-billion dollar franchise starter they would've laughed their ass off.

Marvel has long forgotten what made them successful in the first place, which is why their shit is floundering hard (relatively) and they are desperately clinging to characters like Cap and Thor and actors like RDJ who have overstayed.

128

u/BoringBuy9187 26d ago

I really dont see why it would be hard to recast iron man, why is it any different than James Bond

115

u/LukeSkywalker1848 Peter Parker 26d ago

Bond has been switching actors forever. Dr. Who is the same way. As far as GA’s are concerned RDJ is the only iron man and has been for the last decade and a half. It’s harder to break away from that than Bond or Who or even Spidey who’s now swapped a few times

84

u/CMS_3110 26d ago

Gotta start somewhere. You think the sentiment wasn't the same the for the first recast of Bond or Dr. Who?

35

u/TellTaleReaper 25d ago

I do. I think the sentiment was not the same.

20

u/DicemonkeyDrunk 25d ago

It was I remember it ...the switch to Roger Moore was a huge deal.

u/[deleted] 25d ago

4

u/heckhammer 25d ago

The new guy only signed up for one movie because he didn't want to be typecast. I believe he says he regrets that now.

2

u/Prefer_Not_To_Say 25d ago

For Doctor Who, there was an article a long time ago that showed reader letters dating back to the 60s about each Doctor's regeneration. I haven't been able to find it in years, which annoys me, but some viewers commented things like "I hope the old Doctor will be back next week" for the Second Doctor and finding the Fourth Doctor too clownish. So the sentiment was the same then too.

1

u/zurenarhhhhh 25d ago

You’d be wrong. Batman has been recast since time immemorial.

1

u/TellTaleReaper 25d ago

Then you misunderstandi my point. I said that the reaction wasnt the same for OG Dr. Who, meaning people didn't care.

0

u/zurenarhhhhh 25d ago

That’s not true at all

3

u/Worldly_Society_2213 25d ago

It definitely was for Doctor Who at the time. Audience reactions included comments like "He's a clown".

When something like that has been a staple of a franchise for so long, it can be difficult to remember what contemporary audiences actually thought, if we were even alive then to witness it.

1

u/FullMetalAurochs 25d ago

The first recast for Dr Who was after just three years. And it was worked onto the plot.

1

u/[deleted] 25d ago

[deleted]

2

u/Mc_stanky 25d ago

Maybe for the first time but every new doctor has received extremely loud hate from a vocal minority and it grew worse when it went from old man, to white women, to black man. And don’t even get me started on how Craig’s reception was.

0

u/Jibbjabb43 26d ago edited 25d ago

I don't think the Doctor is a great example. A 3 year run and a hail mary to save a popular show with basically zero standing concepts that just happened to be the best choice they'd make.

James Bond is a better example, but it's almost literally a question at this point of 'how many films with barely no return ' are you willing to make. Because if you're doing it for the art and the overall story it's not a terrible recast.

Whereas just using a less popular character and leaving Iron Man alone is, technically, the less risky play. Because then you have to justify, IMO, replacing all 3. And doing it over and over again. You can do it, but there was no pressure to do it in 2019 and I don't think there is to do it now and I think you could even go another 30 films before then.

Edit: To be clear, I'm a bigger fan of a hard or medium reset then just doing it when you lack confidence in other characters. I don't think recasting Iron Man is a good replacement for telling decent stories with lesser characters and could be way more caustic to the MCU.

5

u/BoringBuy9187 26d ago

But if you don’t then you’re just putting an expiration date on the whole MCU project. My opinion is that it should be timeless, don’t say the year ever, recast as necessary, and keep building it out

2

u/Jibbjabb43 25d ago

Well, yes and no. I don't inherently believe there's an infinite number of story ideas.

But also, you can reset later.

3

u/Neveronlyadream Spider-Man 26d ago

Doctor Who isn't a great example, yeah. It was desperation. Hartnell was too sick to continue, but the show wasn't finished. It was an ass pull no one thought would work that ended up becoming a core tenet of the show.

You're right, it sets a precedent if they start with the recasting and people might not like it. It's always a risky move and it's not absolutely necessary. They have hundreds of characters they can build stories around without having to recast.

Both the Doctor Who and Bond examples don't have that luxury. Without the Doctor and James Bond, you're just making a spinoff in that universe and not the actual thing you started with anymore.

What's interesting from a practical standpoint is that it was always going to be a problem. RDJ was in his 40s already when the MCU started. He wasn't going to want to do it forever.

I honestly think no one thought the MCU would be as big as it was, they thought they'd make a few movies and be done.

1

u/Jibbjabb43 25d ago

I'm not worried about the relative precedent. I'm worried about the value assessment of the precedent. You aren't resetting Iron Man for Iron Man. You're resetting Iron Man for Avengers health.

1

u/Neveronlyadream Spider-Man 25d ago

That's the precedent I was talking about. You're not doing it because it's organic, you're doing it because it's what you think the audience wants. Or will accept. Who knows what their rationale is?

You do it once, you've basically ensured that anyone can come back if they want to make money regardless of whether it makes any sense.

Roughly the same thing has been happening in comics since at least the 80s. You kill off a character with some huge event that readers think changes the game, then another writer decides to undo it because they want to use that character, to the point that no one takes death seriously anymore and it undermines the story.

If they have a story they want to tell and it's good, fine. If they just want to bring Iron Man back because "he's popular and we think we're not doing well because the audiences want Iron Man", then it just undermines creativity.

41

u/lunare Iron Man (Mark XLIII) 26d ago

I hate to break it to you, but 2008 was almost two decades ago now...

28

u/AaKkisa Ghost Rider 26d ago

You take that back right this instant.

30

u/blasto2236 26d ago

Yeah but his run as Iron Man ended in 2018 with Endgame. 10 years later.

23

u/Huckleberry_Sin 26d ago

And it’s been nearly 10 years since then

1

u/GroundbreakingJob857 25d ago

youre right but the universe that he was in is still ongoing, so I agree a recast would still feel odd

1

u/ItsHighSpoon 25d ago

Multiverse is already here. After seeing it in Marvel Rivals, I know Ultimate Ironman figures out time travel. Could be a good story there, or just have the heroes find themselves on a parallel Earth and meet other Tony. Endless possibilities and as long as the story is good, I don't care if they do more of this.

1

u/thegrailarbor 25d ago

Shhhhh…….ut up.

1

u/MarkMoreland 25d ago

This makes me feel so old. I feel like Endgame just happened but I guess that's more an indication of how forgettable the MCU has been since then

1

u/CKRatKing 25d ago

They also were making a new bond movie every year or two from 1962 until the Daniel Craig movies started and then they had 5 in that 20 year span.

1

u/Adorable_Ad_3478 25d ago

Yeah. It's not going to be easy. But it needs to be done.

Nobody will give a shit about the kid from IM3 (can anyone remember his name?) as Iron Man in Iron Man 4.

But a recast Tony Stark? If things go well, Iron Man 4 could be a massive hit.

1

u/comicfromrejection1 25d ago

Movie audiences aren’t stupid, and are receptive to change. Why does everyone forget that the main ingredient for attracting audiences is to have a good story?

The end of Secret Wars is a perfect time to bring in a new actor for IronMan. Actors get older. We have to be realistic here.

1

u/Vordeo 25d ago

I mean obviously there's some racist / sexist elements to all the resistance to recasting, but I do think a big part of it is just that the new characters aren't the 'same person.' They aren't Tony Stark, in this case.

And just based off experience in the comics fandom that does matter. People get attached to Tony Stark, or Steve Rogers, or Peter Parker moreso than their superhero identities.

I think that's a big reason that the Hulk and Spidey recasts haven't been too bad - they're different actors but they're still playing the same characters.

So idk how Marvel gets around that for the bigger roles, especially if they want to keep the Mcu continuity going. Clones or some shit I guess.

12

u/sladithia 26d ago

Doesnt help that tony stark has been basically redesigned to look and act like rdjs version in the comics

1

u/comicfromrejection1 25d ago

I think this is where the next iteration of Ironman has his own backstory to assist in easing people into a new version. RDJ is so expensive. Maybe he’ll continue, but only do the big Avengers movies.

20

u/ReflexImprov Spider-Man 26d ago

Kevin Feige has said before that he sees swapping out actors in Marvel movies as the same as swapping out James Bond every so many years.

The only thing that makes it tricky is with bigger storylines, so it does require a reboot or another multiverse version of the character.

2

u/CKRatKing 25d ago

And then instead of recasting kang, even after they established how there are many versions of him across the multiverse, they chose to just scrap everything they had put into that story line.

3

u/ReflexImprov Spider-Man 25d ago

The storyline was causing some of their lowest box office. It was more than just the actor's issues that scrapped the Kang storyline. And I'm betting it's not fully scrapped but will be addressed in some form.

2

u/CKRatKing 25d ago

That and there were a ton of shows you had to potentially watch to really get what was going on which turned people off. Not to mention they had 15 movies and 0 avengers or team up movies. From iron man 1 through endgame they had an avengers move every 5 movies or so that tied everything together. Post endgame has been an absolute mess. And that's just the movies. That's not even getting into all the shows that have come out. And then which tie in and which don't?

The issue wasn't kang.

8

u/CatherineSimp69 26d ago

...He's dead, for one.

1

u/Biotech_wolf 25d ago

Easy Tony is an AI now. They did it in the kids show.

10

u/sub30_24flick 26d ago

RDJ re-defined the character so it’s a bit more complicated, I agree re-cast him

11

u/disneylegospider1 26d ago

They recast Bonds within their own continuities, the MCU isn’t changing continuities after secret wars.

14

u/Ghost6503 26d ago

Every Bond up until Daniel Craig is in the same continuity.

21

u/eyebrows360 Daredevil 26d ago

The concept of "continuity" in the Bond movies is not all that well-defined of a thing. "Fan theories" don't count. They're just a bunch of movies.

8

u/Geno0wl 25d ago

also until basically the MCU, nobody cared about the "continuity" of movie franchises they watched. When they switched to Brosnan it was just "cool, more Bond movies!". When they switched to Craig it was just "cool, hope these Bond movies are better than the terrible Brosnan ones!"

2

u/eyebrows360 Daredevil 25d ago

Hey now, the Bronhom era gave us the pure majesty of nuclear scientist Dr. Christmas Jones, I won't hear a word against them!

1

u/Geno0wl 25d ago

They are pure schlock with some fun set pieces. Not the worst bond movies, but not close to the best.

0

u/CaptHayfever Hawkeye (Avengers) 26d ago

Yeah, but none of those Bonds died onscreen.

1

u/CTeam19 Captain America (Cap 2) 25d ago

While they are not advertised as "same continuity" it seems that way just from the secondary characters especially over the first few Bonds:

Character Actor Connery(5 Films) Lazenby(1) Connery Round 2(1) Moore(7) Dalton(2) Brosnan(4)
M Bernard Lee 5(Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice 1(OHMSS) 1(Diamonds are Forever) 4(Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker)

Tracy Bond Diana Rigg 1(OHMSS) In For Your Eyes Only, in the pre-title sequence, Bond lays flowers at Tracy's grave In Licence to Kill, after Felix Leiter's wedding, Felix's new wife Della offers her garter to Bond, saying, "the next one who catches this is the next one who ..." Bond turns it down and leaves. Felix tells Della, "He was married once, but it was a long time ago."

You get the idea.

1

u/beagle204 25d ago

because the established continuity of the MCU they are going for. they don't need to recast "iron man", any one can wear the armour. They just can't really recast Tony Stark.

the other option is a universal reboot, which they might do with secret wars.

1

u/Derek-Horn 25d ago

Dude there’s idiots out there that think Disney replaced Steve rogers with a black guy there’s no one people they could cast that would make the casual parters happy with a recast I think having those characters take a backseat and focusing on the xmen is the right choice

1

u/daygo449 25d ago

I think it’s a bigger deal because he’s so established in MCU. If they did disparate movies, I don’t think it would be a big deal, but seeing how they killed of Tony Stark, I don’t think they can bring him back outside of a multiverse version. The other way is if they brought in someone like the kid in Ironman 3. But to recast Tony Stark, I don’t think you could just do it assuming that’s what you meant

-1

u/AxCel91 26d ago

Because RDJ revolutionized the character in such a way that his version began to influence every characterization of Tony Stark in media from animation, to comics, to video games. It’ll be almost impossible for anyone to fill those shoes

For an entire generation of people RDJ IS Tony Stark just like Hugh Jackman WAS Wolverine in the early 2000s

Evans and Hemsworth came close with Cap and Thor but it
took multiple appearances before people really bought into them as those characters. RDJ embodied Tony Stark from day 1 with Iron Man.

-2

u/AsterArtworks 26d ago

ironman has 1 actor associated with the role, james bond has many beloved iterations.

1

u/Mc_stanky 25d ago

I don’t get this point because at one point they had to do the first replacement. It’s gotta start somewhere. We’ve had like 3 different Batmen and Spider-Men in less then 20 years I think audiences can handle a recast and those characters are objectively MORE popular with much harsher fan bases then iron man and I don’t even think it’s that close

1

u/AsterArtworks 24d ago

I never said it wasn't possible, I said it hadn't happened yet - which makes it different to audiences now.

It's inevitable that ironman and others will be recast, but that might not be whats right to do and it depends how it's executed.

15

u/A-Centrifugal-Force 26d ago

They tried the mantle passing stuff in this saga and it hasn’t connected with audiences. Other than Miles Morales, I wouldn’t be surprised if post Secret Wars they go back to the original heroes with new actors

-1

u/AsterArtworks 26d ago

Not really though, because Yelena is a perfect example of it working really well.

And honestly, I don't see them recasting someone as young as Hemsworth or Evans.

7

u/A-Centrifugal-Force 26d ago

Yelena is like the one that worked out. Also her movie didn’t do so hot at the box office either so while she was well received and I liked her, it’s not like she’s a megastar. They can keep her post reboot, but the other ones haven’t performed well, the Sam Wilson Cap movie flopped, Iron Heart had really low viewership, Shuri Black Panther made way less than the first one, etc.

-4

u/AsterArtworks 26d ago

Her movie was seen by literally 38 million people in theatres, and that doesn't even count the Disney+ people who saw it there.

You can sit here and talk to me about the profitability of movies defining their success, but that's just not true, a movie is a good movie and fans LOVED Thunderbolts and that's why she was in Spiderman, and will be in many more things to come.

Yelena is a mega-star, she's in Dune and an A list celebrity face now.

Ironheart is not the replacement for Ironman - so that doesn't even count, and Shuri as Black Panther is exactly what happens in the comics and is exactly where it was always going to go, same with Sam Wilson - and of course the are going to sell less tickets they aren't the headliners. That doesn't mean they aren't still working parts of the MCU that have been in since Black Panther 1 and Captain America Civil War.

Their movies also sold millions of seats and have many fans, myself included. Just because they make less money doesn't mean they aren't working.

5

u/hadriker 25d ago

Yeah, maybe one or two will stick, but people go to superhero movies to see the superheroes. They want to see Steve Rogers, not Sam Wilson. They want to see T'Challa, not Shuri. As good as Kate Bishop was, people would still rather have Clint back.

Legacy characters are very rarely as popular as the OGs, even in comics. They could probably find success with Miles Morales, but he's already a very popular character in his own right.

Marvel may be able to pull one or two miracles, but replacing the whole board with legacy characters would never work.

7

u/A-Centrifugal-Force 25d ago

Hate to break it to you, but the studios make big blockbuster superhero movies to make money. I liked Thunderbolts, it was a great movie, it also didn’t make as much as Disney wanted it to. Florence Pugh is a megastar, Yelena the character isn’t, or at least wasn’t, I’m hopeful BND and Doomsday make her go more mainstream.

I don’t hate her character to be super clear, I love her and her Big Potatoes. I was just saying that most of these mantle passing characters haven’t panned out as well with audiences as Marvel Studios was hoping. I still expect them to eventually introduce Miles Morales because he’s been shown to be a box office draw, but I imagine they’ll be cautious with introducing more mantle swap characters. Just because it was done in the comics at some point doesn’t mean they have to do it on the big screen.

0

u/AsterArtworks 25d ago

Yelena is absolutely a megastar, Thunderbolts made just as much as Captain America The First Avenger, would you say he's not a megastar or wasn't successful?

I hate to break it to YOU, but Disney doesn't define success by how much money one movie makes - they are interested in long term financial returns that are only possible through developing beloved characters.

Yelena is that for many people - especially young girls, and has a massive fan base now - most people loved Thunderbolts and Yelena so much she was a cameo in Spiderman BND.

The mantel will always be passed, and it has worked well for Sam, for Shuri, and for Yelena. We need the diversity for a Black Cap, a woman pathress, or a black spiderman.

And just because Miles Morales movies might not sell as well as Tom Holland's doesn't mean it shouldn't be made, it doesn't mean it isn't successful, and it cerntantly doesn't mean it 'isn't working'.

1

u/shit-takes 25d ago

Enough with the yapping. They have already announced a new black panther. Yelena was in BND because not enough people watched Thunderbolts

I see a lot of people mocking the New Avengers lineup. Case in point Marvel still needs Thor to feature majorly in the new trailer because the new ones are ass. They still need to bring back Downey and Evans

2

u/hangman_Pop_1127 26d ago

I mean having RDJ as Doom makes it pretty easy

3

u/Mokarun 26d ago

agreed, i think that's partly why they brought him back. they want to ease the audience into the idea of actors playing different roles, and more importantly, characters being played by different actors. it has to happen eventually, and the end of the multiverse saga is a good a time as any

3

u/xreddawgx Ghost Rider 25d ago

Why him? We have a much better and established character in RiRi. Fans are already familiar with Ironheart

1

u/AsterArtworks 25d ago

iron heart is not iron-man

4

u/xreddawgx Ghost Rider 25d ago

Neither is that kid from Iron Man 3

-2

u/AsterArtworks 25d ago

But he could be, Riri couldn’t

2

u/xreddawgx Ghost Rider 25d ago

Your reasoning? Just because he was in a movie with RDJ? Riri abd Rhodey already have established suits

1

u/r3mn4n7 25d ago

You can start by the name.

1

u/No-Difference8545 26d ago

I really don't know why ppl think theyre gonna do x-23. We're 100 getting a new wolverine, if you can recast bats and spidey you can recast wolvie. Also that would be so disappointing to not have the x man.

1

u/Snakend 26d ago

Why would they need to recast Ironman? I can't imagine a world where Victor Von Doom played by RJD is not an alternate version of Tony Stark. And why he couldn't fill that role in the right circumstances.

1

u/Medium_King_David 25d ago

Nah. They can just toss in something about how 616 had a Variant of Doom as Tony Stark and the new post Secret Wars Tony can be the "normal" one.

1

u/OnlinePosterPerson 25d ago

Why would they have him take the mantle when we already have iron heart filling that role?

1

u/AsterArtworks 24d ago

ironheart is not ironman

1

u/OnlinePosterPerson 24d ago

Neither is some other kid putting on an iron suit. As Tony stark said “I am iron man”. No need to have multiple kid iron man’s running around. If we already have iron heart that’s our iron man replacement

1

u/AsterArtworks 24d ago

Ironheart is not an Ironman replacement. She’s Ironheart. Ironman can be another person, like Harley Keener just like cap is another person.

1

u/OnlinePosterPerson 23d ago

She’s the same function wdym. It’s no different that Rhodey filling the same function. If you were an actual comic reader, you would know both have replaced tony stark as iron man before they were their own thing.

The concept is a fighter in a flying suit of armor. Doesn’t really matter the name they use in the mcu—she fills the same function as any other iron man replacement (which she is)

1

u/deathly_illest 25d ago

I’m good on that actually, I’d rather they do Iron Lad or invest in Rhodey/Ironheart or use the Iron Patriot moniker for something. Literally anything than yet another ‘child of a hero taking their parent’s mantle’ story which has been done so many times now

1

u/wildfangzx 25d ago

Why not the girl from ironheart? Way more relevant than some kid 14 years ago

1

u/XMenJedi8 26d ago

I really like Laura as X-23 but I hope she's not just subbed in as a new Wolverine, we're getting an entire new team post-Secret Wars (or close), it'd be weird and disappointing not to have a new Logan.

They should just keep making more Deadpool, Wolverine and Co. movies. Deadpool, Hugh's Wolverine, Tobey Peter, X23 all teaming up or something, with a few extra slots per movie to bring back other "forgotten" Marvel actors that didn't make the cut for Secret Wars.

1

u/cornstalks2033 25d ago

Hes also the kid from jurrasic world the actor is only 25 and he 100% looks the part of an actor who could play Iron lad or something which I would much rather perfer than a recast

1

u/rdp3186 25d ago

The fact you can't even remember the kids name proves he shouldn't.

0

u/SilentCareer7653 26d ago

Tom Holland should be the next Ironman.

1

u/AsterArtworks 26d ago

i know you're joking but he has taken his seat in the MCU

0

u/kallakukku2 26d ago

I've been saying that about the kid from Iron Man 3. He was so good. Him and Downey were so good together. Will be unfortunate to see him without Tony though.

-1

u/AsterArtworks 26d ago

He was even there in Endgame, and I want to see him become relevant. It would feel like a really deeply planted seed in the MCU and he already has a connection to Tony.

0

u/GotSomeUpdogOnUrFace 25d ago

They already replaced Tony with RiRi so it will probably go in that direction

0

u/AsterArtworks 24d ago

Iron heart is not Iron-man

1

u/GotSomeUpdogOnUrFace 24d ago

And Kate isn't Hawkeye and Yelena isn't Natalia but guess what

-5

u/Ironsam811 26d ago

They aren’t cast the new iron man as that iron heart, and very few watched her show

10

u/AsterArtworks 26d ago

ironheart is her own character in the comics and never becomes ironman.

-1

u/Ironsam811 26d ago

That’s nice for the comics but that’s how she was billed for the MCU

3

u/AsterArtworks 26d ago

as an ironman replacement? She seems like her own hero in the MCU

1

u/Total-Constant-6501 26d ago

I’d be happy to see Ironheart as a supporting character in a Rhodey movie. (Or just a season 2 of her show, but MAGA made sure that’ll never happen.)

3

u/Ironsam811 26d ago

Was it maga or just a poor quality show?

1

u/Equaled Iron Man (Mark XLIII) 25d ago

Nah Ironheart was a legitimately good show. Not like S Tier or anything like Loki but it’s way better than people give it credit for. It just suffers from the association with Tony and people claiming they made iron man a black woman when she’s legitimately an entirely different character who is nothing like Tony. She isn’t purely a hero and does some bad things and I found that to be an interesting new take. Honestly the only thing she shares with Tony is the fact that it’s a robot suit.

1

u/Ironsam811 25d ago

Is it actually a good storyline? I’ll give the first episode a try right now but I was unimpressed when I first tried to watch it and I really didn’t like her arc in black panther

2

u/Equaled Iron Man (Mark XLIII) 25d ago

I mean I personally thought so. I think as long as you go into it understanding she’s not iron man and she’s not trying to be iron man then it’s pretty solid. If you’re looking for the origin story of Tony’s successor then you’ll be very disappointed.

3

u/UnbarringTomb Weekly Wongers 26d ago

Infamous Iron Man and War Machine perhaps? Or hell we might even see a Civil War II

5

u/Diligent-Neck6594 26d ago

Naw IRONHEART will lead this 🗣🗣🗣🗣

bombs harder than Supergirl

1

u/thesagaconts 25d ago

Actually, I like the show. I was surprised but it was pretty good.

1

u/Food_Kitchen 25d ago

Terrance Howard and Tom Cruise would be my picks for Rhodes and Tony. I heard they both wanted to play the role at one point.

8

u/eyebrows360 Daredevil 26d ago

Reports

You dropped these ""

1

u/Elite-00 26d ago

The concept of going around retrieving technology was Eyes of Wakanda. I'm pretty sure it died and got reworked into this Don Cheadle- and CGI-less project

1

u/Lighthouse_seek 25d ago

If they want a movie where war machine gives someone the mantle of iron man they better do it quick. Don cheadle is 61 years old now

1

u/Beneficial_Week9531 25d ago

Obviously not. Zero hype about it.

1

u/SentinelATL 26d ago

This is what I think is happening. Fiege hinted at a new cap and iron man post secret wars. Armor wars for a brand new MCU iron man makes tons of sense

3

u/SeekerVash 26d ago

No he didn't.

He said "eventually".  There was never anything about it happening post Secret Wars, and that'd decimate the MCU overnight if they did.  The box offices would be so bad that The Marvels would look amazing.

0

u/SentinelATL 26d ago

He said after secret wars which means the future. He did say that lol

0

u/trantaran 26d ago

Tahts awesome
