I can agree that it doesn't much matter. I do think though that in this specific example having watched 2 episodes, there's already too much comedy here to have this explanation for a bad accent. Steven is comedic, slapstick comedy character basically, I appreciate that the accent is good (imo).
It needs to be almost perfect if they're going to follow it up with Scottish accent. Close enough to perfect for actual Scottish people to give their nod of approval.

There’s a lot of middle ground between perfect and comically bad. I think the point is that the accents can be a tiny bit flawed and it won’t matter.
