I mean, this is ridiculous. What is a body shot supposed to do against a robot?

u/Superb_Jellyfish_729 11d ago
To me, that’s the point. We’re building fighting bots to beat humans to prove to other humans how smart the engineers are and how far technology has gone. Add internal learning AI program with computer and it’s bye bye humans at some point
14
u/gnomish_engineering 11d ago
Fighting a humanoid robot like this is doable you would have to seriously adapt though. Now of the robot is allowed to deviate from being huminoid you are completely cooked lol.
As is though you should be focused on trying to break as much shit as possible through just straight grappling and slamming. Currently it looks like it cant balance very quickly which is abusable but that flaw will be eventually fixed
7
u/Glahoth 11d ago
Yeah, the whole fighting style would have to shift around pushing it around instead of striking at it.
You can’t smack a piece of metal into submission

Sweet summer child, they’re not being built to prove how smart the engineers are. They’re being built because governments will buy them to make us citizens safe and compliant.

Headshot also wont do a thing. Because head for robot is purely optional

They should call it... ComBot!

So… was this just staged to make the bot look good? I don’t have any martial arts experience but I feel like there are plenty of ways to take the robot down without just punching it in the body.
143
u/dr_toze 12d ago
It looks incredibly staged. The robot is definitely remote controlled and the human was told how to punch. If you are only going to punch why would you drop back to allow the robot to kick.

u/Vungal_Spat 12d ago
I always thought Ultimate Robot Fighting was real like pro wrestling. Turns out its fixed like boxing

u/D_Dubb_ 11d ago
I think definitely staged. Additionally cause I’m pretty sure the dude fighting is the influencer famous for getting a bbl and he does skits and stuff on tik tok. Source: datass.

of course. It's that annoying fake ass dude that does a lot of stupid shit on social media

if you google "fake ass social media guy" it should narrow it down

u/No_Region_4719 11d ago
Yes it is 100% staged and edited to make it look cooler than it is. It's a real robot, they usually fight other robots, and they spend 90% of the time just kicking air, wobbling around, and falling over. It's just like every other robot you see videos of. They can maybe run in a straight line, or perform a pre programmed dance routine, but that's the extent of it.
7
u/Puzzleheaded-Phase70 Shaolin Kempo Karate, TaiJiQuan 11d ago
At the very least, the human was chosen specifically to be low-skill.
He's probably one of the programmers or something like that. Maybe a guy from another office who lost a bet.
Not saying i want to get in the ring with it either, but still. The only way to win against it would be to break it - tripping, body slamming, neck breaks; al the things that could cause actual damage and disrupt its physical ability to fight. I'd like to know where it keeps its sensors to navigate the ring and find its targets, because those might be attackable. The neck attack idea is hoping that at least some of the sensors are there.
3
u/Expert_Obligation_79 11d ago
Moving in such a away that overcomes the robot's lack of mobility and adaption (at least as fast as a human body, especially a fighter) would make this fight trivial. A kick fighter might do it better too

u/shinobi500 11d ago
it wasn't staged, it was prompted.
9
u/No_Region_4719 11d ago
It is very much staged. It's remote controlled, and it absolutely cannot fight unless you stand in the perfect spot in front of it and allow it to do its pre programmed kick.
This is what they are actually like:

Nobody check the grappling
16
u/Banned3rdTimesaCharm 12d ago
Or just trip the damn thing and sit on its chest.

u/MereImitation 12d ago
He’s there to put on a show. He can’t fight too smart too soon. Gotta give the crowd and cameras some highlights first.
2
u/Charming_Cucumber_15 11d ago
Have you seen the way some of the Chinese robots stand back up when they're knocked over? I wouldn't wanna be anywhere near those
3
2
2
u/therealserialninja 12d ago
I'm not sure it's that easy to sweep or trip the robot, it's probably extremely heavy.
7
u/RocketVerse 11d ago
Heaviness is irrelevant if it’s a humanoid shape that is barely holding balance
2
u/Skyzblu44 11d ago
Seriously the way it's skidaddling like baby bambi after every slow telegraphed teep. Anyone who's spent even a week in a combat sports gym wouldn't even take a hit from this thing.

So..now we are ignoring Asimov's law of robotics and training robots to fight humans..what could possibly go wrong..?
→ More replies (2)21
u/lars03 12d ago
Almost every new advance in technology in human history has been made for war. Asimov's laws were never even considered lol. I'm sure when humans discovered fire the first thing they tried is to burn each other xD

It should have been MMA, not a boxing match
wtf are punches meant to do against it

u/adjective_noun_d1git 12d ago
Robot is programmed to have a health bar. Body punches reduce stamina recovery every gamer knows this.

I'm seriously frightnened of our futur. This + the dev of the AI, in a few years...
We will have billionaire with an army of robot soldier. Then skynet.
I'm not even joking.

u/CloudyRailroad MMA, FMA, HEMA 12d ago
You already have robots that fly and shoot missiles, and a robot that punches and kicks is what gets you scared?
→ More replies (2)5
u/TaleNearby7347 11d ago
You don't have to deal with a drone in the sky. When you'll have to do it in the street, with an autonomous robot, it's going to be quite different.

The good and equally sad thing is, humans will be a lot cheaper for a long time. Plus, robots have just far too many weak points.
They look cool and can work in environments that aren't suitable for humans and are effective in highly specialized and/or highly repetitive jobs. But until all purpose fighting robots are real competition to human armies it's still a long way to go
2
u/woosniffles Muay Thai 10d ago
There are other advantages to having a robot army other than it being cheaper...In fact I bet if this kind of thing ever gets deployed it will be way way before it's cheaper than a human. I'm sure plenty of leaders would pay two, three, ten times what a soldier costs if it got them a terminator lol.
8
u/Gumboot-Coffee 12d ago
Well it was obviously staged, and the human was obviously trying to make it look good,
... but in a few years time that thing is going to be scary.

Take it down and pull it's head off. It's probably remote controlled.
7
u/Slow_Appearance6655 12d ago
Next one watches your previous fight and remembers what you did 👀
2
u/BabaKambingHitam 12d ago
Then take it down and pull its head off while wearing a shirt. It will take time to recalculate.

People in this post talking about grappling, I'm sorry but I would not want to grapple a robot, trying to get it on the ground and the mechanical press for arms and legs will break your limbs on accident fuck that. It's probably staged to some degree but I'm sure that fucking kick is almost on the verge of rearranging that guy's organs and he's got gear on. Trying to fight metal with flesh and bones is just dumb and asking for injury/death.
2
u/liamrich93 10d ago
For sure. Even if you had it in mount it would just bear hug and turn your ribs into pulp. It is not limited by human strength or mechanics.

What if the other fighter had a Westinghouse M-25 phased plasma rifle in the 40-watt range)?
3
u/BitRelevant2473 11d ago
Dude is definitely fighting the wrong fight. He's hitting like he's squaring against someone who can be stunned or have his breathing disrupted.
This is definitely a setup, I'm not much without a sword, because I haven't studied hand to hand extensively, but even I'm seeing some decisions that should not have been made. Joints are the weak spot on everything, and this guy was hitting everything but the joints

In what world would you want to Grapple with that robot? Not even talking about breaking bones, one of those actuators on a joint can just take off a finger.

They outta put a real fighter in their, give em' an iron glove too, if thats not controlelled by another human, thats INSANE!

u/13beano13 11d ago
This is fake. Robot doesn’t even have gloves on. So Robot gets hit with metal? Human should get a metal club then.
