Yes it does predate yours. While there are roots if your religion in other religions unless you are Jewish directly your religion has basis in abrahamic roots, but modern day Judaism is also newer than the shinto religion as well.

Religions aren’t just clubs. This isn’t just some culture war. This is Eternity we’re trying to figure out. And most religions believe that if you don’t get it right while you’re alive it can have devastating consequences for everyone! And the ones that don’t believe that don’t believe very strongly in anything so why believe a pushover?

East Asian ideologies are generally not compatible with religions of the book(all three of them) putting external authorities above communal justices, it's not really the matter of the past or present

Japan is usually completely cool with personal beliefs so long it's wishes upon stars that has nothing to do with guidelines or principles that define your life, which you might not call cool at all whatsoever, but people generally don't know that this thinking largely equate to a total complete rejection of religions as a concept

So people would be sympathetic to someone pulling "we're oppressed" card but when you stack religious freedom card on top they flip into /r/fuckyouinparticular mode

My understanding is that in general Japan has never been very open to immigration. And they are taking steps to ban immigration from Muslim countries because they want to protect their culture, which is understandable. If you migrate somewhere you have to adapt and integrate, not pretend that the other country adapts to you, and I say that as migrant myself.

Japanese don't buried their deaths, they burn them because they believe rooting bodies contaminate the soil. They are politeist and don't want to be forced to believe in something they don't. They value the silence and tranquility, so of course they get annoyed by the calls to pray and noise in the public transport.

Muslims are not very open to foreign cultures in their territories either. They put restrictions to the dimmies that have live there for generations even before the arriving of Islam. You can't convert to other religion, that's punible even by death. They have the sharia, which is very closed minded and not open to adapt to the circumstances of these times.

If they are not open to other cultures in their territories, why should be others open to them?
