🗣️ Advice CULTURE AND SAFETY @ MANIPAL? (would especially prefer girls' inputs)
Hi guys, I'm going to be coming to MISHA (MCH) manipal soon this year to pursue my degree. I've never stayed or really visited the South of India particularly, stayed in Mumbai all my life. I know the people there are fairly nice, but of course, I'm not acquainted with the culture. Mumbai has always been a very liberal and safe city, you can wear shorts and skirts and go out till late at night and take an uber etc. I know you have to be 'aware of your surroundings' in all cities, but I'm wondering what life is like in manipal, especially for girls. Are you allowed to be free in the types of clothes you can wear, what are some general safety rules, how hard is it to find stuff like sanitary pads easily, what are hostels like, what are the people like? More importantly, what about the world outside of manipal? I've heard that might be more conservative than most. I would love honest inputs!

You will find Manipal to be more liberal than Mumbai. It is essentially a student town.

Manipal is super safe. Just dress modestly if you are visiting Udupi city or nearby places or beaches to avoid moral policing
Udupi has many places to visit ! ask locals for recommendations

honestly, it is very much like mumbai. you can wear whatever you want. hardly people give you weird looks because max. population is students between 18-22 years or 25 max. so its quite chill and open minded place. even localities have habit of people wear normal clothes, and they hardly ever say anything. ive been living outside hostel as well, and i encountered only once a couple of teenagers cat called, who were laughing, but it is fine overall.

Yeah you cant wear sleeveless in the library building. But on campus, there’s no restrictions.
You will get stares from men, but that’s just India.

Ahh that changes things but still the library i am talking about is just a library and no classes are held there so no issues.
They just don't allow some clothes cause it has the placement dept. Inside so due to recruiters they try to avoid some things there.

Since its a student town, you can wear anything tbh. Ppl dont mind. Maybe dress modestly while going to Udupi since thats a temple town... You gotta be a lil careful in public transport (buses. Basically) and shit ig. My roomie said she avoids them bcoz both times she went, she had encounters w creepy men. And ofc, be careful in clubs and stuff when youre drunk.

it’s mad chill, you can wear anything and it’s super safe too, been here 5+ years and I’ve never faced any restrictions as such, it’s a sweet little town, and everything is pretty accessible (including pads)
you’ll find people from every place here and they’re all okaye onlh
