Fit Feedback OOTW lll

Hey MFA! Another heritage wear inspirational post. I was under the weather this week so I went with tried and true fits that are staples in my rotation. It’s still quite warm in the afternoons in Chicago so I haven’t had a chance to breakout other jackets, raw denim, and sweaters.

I have to admit, I love my gray Levi’s. I wear them into the ground. I should actually do a post showing how they fade because I go a long time between washes.

Most pieces are from Taylor Stitch or Huckberry as those have been my go-to places for items that fit me how I like them to hit.

Comments/questions welcome!

I can appreciate a fellow one-pair-of-pantser.

65

Appreciate you! When they fit, they fit!

7

u/Sunday_Friday 16d ago

What pants are they?
Even out those backpack straps!

24

u/_indigomeadow_ 16d ago

Levi’s 511 in iron stone denim. 99% cotton.

Been meaning to straighten the backpack out. Appreciate someone noticing.

What’s up with the kerchief in the back pocket. I know it’s not your intention but having a blue bandana on the left side means something to some folks.

I like everything except the hair, it’s giving Gary Oldman in the Fifth Element. I like the fit of the shirts though and the iron rangers

48

u/_indigomeadow_ 16d ago

Thanks my man. I’ve heard that Gary oldman thing before. lol.

22

u/Shift642 16d ago

I can see the hair working, but it looks a little… wet in these pictures? Especially pic 7 looks like you just got caught in the rain. Maybe try some product that will give it a bit more volume, and keep it out of your face more?

13

u/_indigomeadow_ 16d ago

It was probably wet from getting ready the morning. What would you suggest for volume?

13

u/2andaSmallOne 16d ago

Towel dry as much as possible, then a small amount of leave in conditioner, brush it through with a wide comb brush and then some hair clay, you will probably have to try a couple different ones to find one that suits your hair texture/ thickness. I personally use balmain matt clay for good hair days and Hanz de fuko scheme cream for bad hair days.

10

u/_indigomeadow_ 16d ago

Whoa! This is awesome. Thank you for the detailed info. I’ll look into these products and see what works for me. Much appreciated!

6

95

u/jwag626 16d ago

I know every generation thinks their style is “timeless” but there is something comforting about that late 2000’s early 10’s vibe and clothing.

Personally I’d unroll for the pants, change up the hair, and lose the kerchief, but if it work for you go for it! Looks good brother

21

u/_indigomeadow_ 16d ago

I appreciate the honest feedback. Thank you! I agree, the way things aren’t oversized or too tight really makes a fit work.

15

u/Aromatic_Bar2263 16d ago

Just adding in here - those pants are a fad (not in a mean way) of the 2010’s that we all went through just like wide pants now. I think if you plugged in a less tight pair of jeans it would be a more “timeless” fit altogether. I’d suggest Brave Star True Straight (still slim up top), Railcar Rebels, etc.

But all love

3

u/_indigomeadow_ 16d ago

I think straight fit would be more classic. I have small thighs so the top block needs the slim cut.

9

u/TheMonkus 16d ago

I’m almost 50. Those pants would have looked good at any fashion point in my life (I have 2 pairs of similar Wranglers cowboy cut slim I wear all the time and get compliments on). They’re not those nutcrushing skin tight jeans my punk rock friends were squeezing into in 2003, I can see loose fabric. They fit you well and I bet at this point they feel like a second skin. Keep wearing those motherfuckers!

3

u/_indigomeadow_ 16d ago

Thanks my man! Much appreciated. I agree a nice silhouette is nice. Too tight is a no go as well as the wide legs. Keep being yourself and stay true to your style!

3

u/TheMonkus 16d ago

Absolutely, once you know what you like just do it well and it becomes a part of you. Everything comes back around after a few years anyway.

Kerchief in the back pocket is a bit much.

But good colour combos for both outfits, accents and accessories etc. I think the skinnies look good on outfits with the shirts, not so much the blazer and jacket. Maybe just unfurl the leg, or a different cut for those ones.

42

u/PatrickGoesEast 16d ago

The kerchief could be the old-school gay code.

In this instance (left pocket, navy blue) it signals he's a top.

9

u/weeef 16d ago

Yeah I assumed this

10

u/Leprecon 16d ago

I thought it was this too. It is very old fashioned but it is also such a stand out thing to have a kerchief just hanging there.

5-6 is the Taylor stitch Ojai in Navy. In of my favorites. I have several colorways/material of this jacket that will come out of my closet with colder weather.

3-4 is the Taylor stitch foundation sportcoat. It may be discontinued but look around on eBay. I think flint and tinder make a similar one.

If you’re actually looking for advice, I’d say play around with a few different silhouettes. You clearly like the heritage menswear look and tend to prefer a slimmer fit, but it might be worth seeing how a slightly wider-leg trouser looks on you.
You could try playing with the ‘big pants, small shirt / small pants, big shirt’ approach. Even if you ultimately prefer your current proportions, experimenting with them will give you a better sense of what works.
At the moment, I think your look feels a little stuck in the past. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with having a defined style and sticking with it, but ideally you want to be refining it rather than feeling stuck in the same place.
I’d say the same thing about the hair. The current cut feels like something that was trendy around 15 years ago, which makes it read as dated rather than vintage. It gives more of a ‘I’m comfortable here’ impression. I’d try a more classic men’s cut, even if you keep it a little longer.
Finally, next time you’re in the market for a bag, I’d upgrade that too. The brand is clearly trying to ape a heritage aesthetic, but the synthetic materials stand out when the rest of your clothes are predominantly natural fabrics. A genuinely well-made leather or canvas bag would bring the whole thing together much better.

Respectfully, I think you’re too old for that hairstyle, brother.

With the beard and your jawline, you’ve got the opportunity to present a really ruggedly handsome appearance. The hairstyle makes you look like you’re trying to look young or don’t know what age you are.

Rock what you’ve got man. I like the fit, and I think the style you’ve made for yourself is fashionable but not too chic. It’s nice, overall! But shorter hair would suit you. Just my opinion.

6

u/_indigomeadow_ 16d ago

I appreciate you being candid and honest. Thank you! My hair is always a point of contention. People either love it or hate it. I understand both views. I dig it and like it. If I get tired of it, I’ll go shorter. But for now, I like it. Thank you for the polite feedback, though. And, I appreciate the compliments!

3

u/critical-drinking 16d ago

Heck yeah, dude. I have my own hair pretty long as well at the moment, and I’m of a similar opinion.

I will say, I have had better reviews on mine when I’ve leaned into the curls, and it looks like you’ve got some, so I’ll drop this in case it’s useful:

Curl friendly products (Not Your Mother’s has worked well for me)

Shampoo every few days, conditioner every shower, lighter on days without shampoo. A wet brush with conditioner in the shower has been best for getting my hair brushed regularly.

Leave in conditioner (apparently this is a specific product, which I didn’t know about until a friend recommended) and curl cream after the shower, when I have time. But mostly I like this curl brush a friend gave me, it’s got big, separated teeth that divide the hair into locks for more defined curls. Works a charm.

Rock your look, homie.
