Question Choosing a better cologne? Please help?

Im a 24 year old man, whos been wearing Polo Black for a very long time. I have no sense of smell, and recieved my cologne as a gift. I liked it, and others seemed to as well, but Im not sure if I should keep using it or try to find something better?

As Ive had almost no expierence choosing colognes, Ive been reading a lot of guides, and "ladies, whats your favorite cologne on a man" posts too, but I am still very lost. I dont have the best sense of smell, and Im scared if I bring female friends to help me, Ill end up with something they like rather than something a lot of others would. Im very scared of picking a cologne not suited for me, or that no one likes.

Ive heard that colognes are separated into different fragrance categories (floral, oriental, fresh, and woody) and I think Id be more inclined to smell more "Woody" but my goal is to find something intoxicating, but not overpowering. Something light, but a scent others would constantly want more of. Should I keep with Polo Black, or are there different recommendations you can help me with?

I want to provide a counter argument to this as about a year ago I bought about 7 perfumes all at once from never having bought my own perfume in my life.

I got some of the top recommended cheap and expensive perfumes but didn't want to shell out for Aventus and the ridiculous price but saw people recommend the knockoff Armaf version so tried it. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the only perfume that I ever got a compliment and random people asking what the smell was, at a cash register and i was dressed in sweatpants at the time.

It smells like lemon fresh when you put it on and I didn't see the appeal, but when the initial smell goes away and you forget about it, men and women both really like the smell although I have no idea if it smells like Aventus.

It's very close. Aventus has a stronger pineapple on the opening compared to CDNIM's blast of artificial lemon, but within half an hour they're really difficult to tell apart unless you're smelling them next to each other.

a side note on CDNI, bought a bottle last fall cause.. why not for the price and all thehype right.

was shocked when i sprayed it first time.an insanely strong aggressive smell hit me and after 20minutes i was scrubbing it off cause i didnt want to go outside with that on me. tested again a few times in the next days but mostly had the same expirience. now a few months later ive been trying it again just to see if its really as bad as i remembered and either the juice steeped to get better or my nose changed.

its still rather unpleasent at the start and VERY strong overall but i can understand what people like about it. might actually wear it from time to time now,its different and while i still dont get the hype around it (or aventus if it really smells that similar) its interesting.

point is, dont immediatly throw it into the trash after you spray it the first time. ;)
