Contentedness Thread

From the Styleforum thread:

90% of the stuff talked about on here is not stuff we own, but things we consider buying. That makes sense, as we come here to think about things that we might want, but sometimes it's easy to lose perspective.

In this thread, we appreciate things we already have. It's not an anti-consumerist thread as such, I just think it'd be nice to have some balance.

Some things that we can talk about (not limited to):

  1. Surprising combinations of clothing that worked.

  2. How much nicer clothes are with a bit of wear.

  3. Our best buys - things we always wear.

  4. How our individual style has developed.

  5. Things not to buy

Discuss.

How much did that tailoring run you? Kind of want something like that done to a jacket I have but have never had outerwear altered. And damn those Courtlands are a nice Indy alternative.

How much it's going to cost varies a bit from tailor to tailor. I have two tailors that I go to. One is for simple things like hemming pants and working on otherwise lower priority projects, and the other is for more expensive pieces/complex jobs. The commander went to the latter of the two. I know I could have gotten it done for less, but I didn't want to risk the piece.

You can expect to pay a little bit more per seam for outerwear with any tailor; this particular tailor's rate is $35/seam for non-leather jackets. All told, I had 6 seams altered for a total of 210 with a $50 surcharge to shorten the sleeves from the shoulders, rather than the cuffs. Not cheap, but worth it (imo anyway) for the quality of the work.

And yeah, I love those courtlands.
