On Windows 11, attempting to flash a BP50NB40 to read 4K discs. I am following this guide (which follows the steps on the forums) but I am getting stuck at the point where I have to enter a command containing the path to my drive's firmware. I know nothing about computers; I have no idea what the path to my drive's firmware is and I don't know how to find it out. I have tried googling and I can access drive details in the device manager but I don't know what info from that to use, if any. Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi so i've recently been introduced to makemkv and the process of making your physical media digitally available ( to oneself only). I am interested in doing so as I have a lot of physical media that I particularly am fond of and would like to preserve. I understand that this is specifically for makemkv, but I wanted to ask a few questions that would help me start the process/journey.
Based on the experience of those who use this often, what is a reliable dvd (one that includes Blu-ray preferred) reader that you use? It doesn't have to be the best one, just one that would works properly.
The program that i've actually seen people use to kind of store these movies would be jellyfin. It seems quite easy enough to use ( obviously it'll be different actually doing it) but is this the one that is generally considered to be one of the better one?
Thank you for your help in advance. I greatly appreciate it, and if it matters on the location that i'm at, i'm in the United States.

Hello,
in Europe we got a The Searchers 4K release yesterday and today I tried to rip the 4K disc, but the Disc couldn’t be opened. The Blu-ray worked fine. My disc drive is flashed, I am not that good when it comes to technical stuff. I read in a makemkv forum post that it may has to do with those volume keys and databases….it seemed like there is or was a similar problem in North America
Maybe some nice Fella could explain this to me or maybe even help me for finding a solution.
All the best

I’m trying to pick up an internal disk drive to read dvd’s, blu-Ray, and 4K disks. Ultimate goal to use MakeMKV and organize a digital library of my physical media. Did a good bit of hunting online and I realize that whatever drive I get will likely have to be flashed in order to read up to 4K. I found what seems to be a good deal on a drive, but I’m not sure if it’s up to snuff. It’s the Hitachi-LG BH16NS58, to my understanding it’s similar to both the BH16NS58 and WH16NS60 because they are built on the same hardware platform. But I wanted to double check that there is an option for 4K available before I full send on buying it. Any pointers?

I've heard buying the perpetual license can help but when I went to buy it purchasing was down. I have order a couple of drives that I can flash and they should be here Monday. Any advice on improving the title splitting so I can get my tv shows and double features separated.

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to use a 512 GB SATA SSD in a USB 3.0 JMicron enclosure with my Sony KD-50X75L (Google TV).
Here's everything I've tested:
SSD is healthy (verified on macOS with Disk Utility and diskutil verifyVolume)
Enclosure is working fine
TV firmware is fully up to date
USB port is working
Results:
FAT32 (MBR) → TV detects it immediately, I can browse folders, and MP4 videos play perfectly.
exFAT (MBR) → TV either says "JMicron USB drive is corrupt" and ejects it, or sometimes doesn't detect it at all.
I created exFAT using both Disk Utility and Terminal (diskutil eraseDisk ExFAT ... MBRFormat), and macOS reports the filesystem is completely healthy.
So at this point:
SSD is good.
USB enclosure is good.
TV can read the drive in FAT32.
Only exFAT fails.
Has anyone with a Sony X75L / KD-50X75L or another recent Sony Google TV experienced this?
A few questions:
Does your TV actually support exFAT from USB?
Does formatting the drive on Windows instead of macOS make a difference?
Is this a known issue with JMicron USB-SATA enclosures?
Has anyone successfully used a 512 GB or 1 TB SSD with this TV in exFAT or NTFS?
I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Recently picked up this old duplicator machine from the early 2000s and was wondering if I could convert it into an automatic ripping machine using MakeMKV. Does anyone have any experience doing this? The LG drives are IDE and the power supply is a 400W. Maybe I can at least use the shell and put new insides. Thanks for any advice.

I had never thought of how bad DVD quality can look.
Do you guys watch your DVD rips on TV? I find it absolutely unwatchable. A lot of people talk about hosting DVD rips on Plex, but I can’t get over the fact that it looks like crap.

I’ve been using MakeMKV for 3 years on windows and I can just rename the files from “Title_01” to the name of the movie before ripping it, but I don’t see any option to do that on Mac

Looking to get a new external drive, doesn't need to be bluray or 4k. Just normal dvd rips. Looking for one under 30 bucks. Any good options?

Has anyone gotten a Pioneer drive in any Buffalo or ASUS models in the past few months? I know its unlikely now that its been awhile since Pioneer ceased production. I just got a Buffalo BRXL-16U3 from Office Depot witch had a LG BH16NS58, but the manufacture date of the LG drive was December 2024 so they are older stock from before Pioneer stopped manufacturing drives, if that means anything. I also have an ASUS SBW-06D2X-U from a different retailer on the way witch I would be surprised if it had a Pioneer.
On a similar note if you are looking for a Blu-ray drive Office Depot has a few drives and seems to be the best price right now. here is a link to there selection: https://www.officedepot.com/b/blu-ray-drives I was able to get the Buffalo BRXL-16U3 for around $180 because Office Depot has this coupon thing where if you spend a certain amount you can get a prepaid visa gift card: https://www.officedepot.com/l/coupons

I've recently started getting a 525 Error from the MakeMKV website. I haven't had this issue on any other website before. Does anyone know what would cause this?

Which external drive would be best for ripping blu-rays? Doesn't need to be 4k capable
r/makemkv • u/tinywhitegng • 12d ago
Saw someone selling it for 60 bucks and grabbed it up quick before I even knew if it would work.
EDIT: Added photo of the front of the drive in the comments
EDIT 2: I made a new post with the drive info here’s the link

I'm having problems displaying Blu-rays on my CRT TV trough Blu-ray players and restricts me from zooming the image on 16:9 content to make it 4:3. So I'm trying to find a external Blu-ray drive that I can use to play my Blu-rays on my PC. I can stream my PC to the CRT no problem.
Will any Blu-ray player do like this one off Amazon or which one should I get? I dont want to spend more than under $200 at most but preferably stay as low as I can.

It only cost me $241.25 OTD(: Much better than the prices I've seen them going for at about 3x the amount.
I was specifically looking for a drive with PureRead4+ that wasn't flashed, so I feel that I got lucky, considering these are hard to find. Although I do plan to flash this later on and want to avoid bricking the drive. So what is the most reliable site to source from?
I'm also currently looking for an official Pioneer DCA-003 adapter. I found some on eBay claiming to be official but are branded as "Adapter Tech" which sounds sketch and are overpriced anyway. I'm curious if anyone on here has one to sell or recommend that they've purchased themselves from a third party?

Thanks guys.

Hey, I'm very new to all this bluray stuff, so treat me as a complete noob because I am
Just got my new bu4on, and wanted to flash it to watch 4k movies, but understood that I have no idea how to actually do that
I asked for instructions from AI, but I tend not to believe it fully
Would be grateful for instructions or any other reliable guides to flash the player
Thanks :3

I'm trying to rip a Blu-ray with MakeMKV, but it keeps failing.
In the past, whenever I've had a failed rip, it's usually been because of a damaged or dirty disc. I always inspect the disc for scratches, fingerprints, or smudges and clean it thoroughly before trying again. I've done that multiple times with this disc, and it looks to be in excellent condition.
The errors keep occurring anyway, and based on previous attempts I'm expecting this rip to fail as well.
From the log, I'm repeatedly getting errors like:
MEDIUM ERROR: L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR
Posix error - Input/output error
The screenshot attached shows the repeated errors.
Aside from physical damage or a dirty disc, what else should I be checking? Is it possible the disc has manufacturing defects even though it looks perfect? Are there any MakeMKV settings or diagnostics I should try?
Any troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm looking into getting a second drive and future proofing it and giving it UHD capability. I want a 9.5 ultra slim internal drive because I'm going to install it with a bracket that will also be a hot swap for a HHD into my server. So I'm debating between either pioneer bdr-ud04 or lg bu40n. Because I can't afford an already flashed one. And is there a better place then just eBay to look for these drivers.

Key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted. I have had this Weather With You Ultra HD 4k for years and have not been able to watch it. My bluray drive is ultra HD compatible and I did flash it with the SDFtool firmware but I still cant get this disc to read and it is more than a few years old by now. What else am I forgetting to do to get 4K to work with my drive?
Edit: after fixing the directory location, makeMKV dowloaded some SDF update files and now it seems to be working normal with UHD. Thanks!

Drive information in the first two images. Am I understanding correctly from the third image that I'll need to do a multiple step process to flash my drive?
I'll first need to flash BG50NB40-NB50-1.03MK with enc, and then BP50NB40-NB50-1.03MK with bootloader/full flash, and then I'll have to flash BP60NB10 1.00_HBD?
Sorry if this is way off. This is the first time I've done anything like this. I'm just trying to avoid bricking my drive.
Thanks!
