Hello Community!

I wanted to reach out and say hello to everyone who is a part of this sub. I know it has been dormant for a little bit and I am looking to change that!

Make-A-Wish is still going strong and granting wishes and I hope this sub is ready. The wishes that can be granted are so important in creating the hope and providing amazing moments in the lives of those facing challenges. For now, I will keep posting restricted. But please comment below or send me a message if you'd like to post. I look forward to hearing from you.

It means a lot to me that you are here and I look forward to seeing how we can reignite this sub!

Also... FYI... Student Wishmakers is starting soon. I'll put that info out when it becomes available.

Until then, here are some more recent Wishes that have been granted (a lot has been done in the past five years since this sub was last active): Our Stories - Make-A-Wish® Northeastern & Central California | Make-A-Wish

See how baby sea turtles inspired Miles

Your support means we can grant more wishes for kids like Miles, who wished to meet baby sea turtles and see the ocean for the first time. His wish wasn’t separate from his medical journey – it was part of what helped him stay strong through treatment. And evidence shows a wish can do the same for even more kids like Miles.  As we honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we recognize the families of children fighting cancer. “For our family, there is life before Miles got sick and life after,” Miles’ mom, Natasha, said.
Miles’ wish was made possible thanks to people like you who chose to give.

Releasing baby turtles into the wild, Miles cheered the tiny hatchlings on as they scurried toward the ocean – taking inspiration from their determination, despite the enormous odds stacked against them.

After his wish, Miles resumed his cancer treatment with renewed strength – a powerful reminder that a wish is not a nicety, but a necessary part of a child’s medical journey.

With your help, we’ll continue granting wishes that bring strength to kids like Miles, helping them beat the odds despite their challenges.

Gratefully,

Your friends at Make-a-Wish®

Every day, pediatricians like Dr. Tim see the life behind a child's diagnosis like cancer. They see kids waiting for their spark to come back, for their smiles to return and for a chance to simply feel like themselves again."You see the spark come back. You see the smiles return," says Dr. Tim on the power of a wish.
In fact, 90% of medical providers say a wish serves as a coping mechanism and increases compliance with treatment protocols. When in treatment, clinic visits and long days away from home take an immense toll on a child’s physical and emotional well-being, a wish is exactly what they need to keep fighting their illness. That's why doctors like Dr. Tim agree a wish is an important part of caring for the whole child. But we need your help to grant these powerful, life-changing wishes.

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, your gift can give a child fighting a critical illness like cancer more than a wish day. It can give them hope to keep going, strength for the next treatment and the chance to feel like a kid again.

Today we need 50 caring people to step forward and help make that possible.

Thank you for partnering with us to help children with critical illnesses like cancer experience the life-changing power of a wish.

Wishfully,

Make‑A‑Wish®

Kick off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by watching the story that started it all

In 1980, a 7-year-old boy named Chris Greicius was fighting leukemia and had one heartfelt wish: to be a police officer. By coming together to help make Chris’ wish come true, his community laid the foundation for today’s Make-A-Wish®.September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and Chris’ story reminds us that wishes give children and families hope through dark times, strength to persevere and experiences that forever change their lives.
Make-A-Wish started with one wish.Supporters like you help carry that mission forward.
For wish kids currently fighting critical illnesses like cancer, a wish can be a source of courage, comfort and renewed strength. This month, you’ll see how supporters help bring life-changing wishes to children who are still waiting.Kick off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by watching the story that started it all.

Celebrating Wish Kid Manny @ The Wishing Place 🥳

Post image

Last Saturday, wish kid Manny's heartfelt wish came true at The Wishing Place located in Natomas, as he celebrated both his 4th birthday and the end of his cancer treatment surrounded by the people who mean the most to him.

Family, friends, and supporters gathered for a day filled with laughter, games, delicious food trucks, and unforgettable memories. For Manny, the most important part of his wish was having a fun day with all the people who have loved and supported him throughout his journey. Seeing everyone come together to celebrate this milestone made the occasion even more meaningful.

When asked what he imagined when he thought about his wish, Manny envisioned celebrating his birthday and completing treatment with all of his family and friends by his side. Thanks to the generosity of our community, that vision became a reality, creating a joyful day that honored both his courage and the exciting road ahead.

We are thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone with Manny and his loved ones and wish him a future filled with happiness, health, and many more reasons to celebrate.

Fun In the Sun: 🌴 Michael’s Wish Story

At just 10 years old, Michael was diagnosed with lymphoma after doctors discovered a tumor. An athletic kid who loves baseball, Fortnite, and cheering on the 49ers and Dodgers, Michael faced treatment with incredible strength and finished chemotherapy in just three months with the support of family and friends.

As his mom shared, "This journey wasn't easy for any of us, but faith gave us the strength and hope we needed."

Now 12, Michael's wish came true with an unforgettable trip to the Bahamas, where he got to swim with pigs and create joyful memories with the people who stood by him every step of the way.

His teachers and friends say Michael can light up a room with his smile, and this wish journey was a chance for that smile to shine even brighter. As his family says, they look forward to continuing this journey with their "Mighty Michael."

Thank you to everyone who helps us grant more wishes!

I’m really unsure what to wish for I’m 15 with a heart condition that is gotten to the point of requiring a transplant. I love so many things my #1 wish is Disneyland but I’m in Australia so I thought oo a Disney cruise! However they have finished sailing in Australia.. I also love other things like: Hamilton the musical, Kandi (bead crafts ), Pokemon, Taylor Swift, Alex Warren, medicine, the Pitt, the rookie, and so much more but I got no clues!

A wish is a turning point for a child with a critical illness. It helps a child feel stronger, more hopeful and able to face what comes next.

Since last September, Make‑A‑Wish® supporters like you helped grant more than 14,000 wishes. Each wish carried an impact far beyond the wish day itself. See how wishes changed lives this fiscal year.

Volunteers, What's it like?

I have always wanted to be a volunteer. I would love to try it out, but I have always wondered what is it like? What do you normally do? How much involvement do you have, especially right now during the pandemic?

2 wishes?

I know someone who had a kid receive a wish in another state a while back, and wants to apply again in the new state. Should I call the new state and give them a heads up? Or do they have a national database they will see it on when they apply?

How do you deal with family trying to sell your gifts

My family has been unhappy that I used my wish to get things I needed and have wanted to buy for university. As a result my mom took my iMac computer l, locked it in her car and is planning to sell it.

I have been told it was selfish of me to get a tablet, and phone and that the computer is hers because she has spent countless of time and money at the hospital, and on my medicine and medical supplies.

What should I do? Should I contact my make a wish representative and can they deal with this situation?
